Grand Cayman--Buying liquor

I have heard that Grand Cayman is very expensive for souvenirs. Our ship will be making only two stops, one in Key West and the other in GC. Does it pay to buy liquor there, and if so where ?.

If you are buying liquor duty free, I have always found the ships prices to be very competitive with the islands.

I have never found the on board prices to be competitive. I was in Cayman this month and the prices on my favorite scotch were two dollars less at Tortuga Liquors on GC than on board. Buying in GC in simple as they transport it to the ship for you and it will be delivered to your cabin at the end of the cruise.

You will hear a lot of price guarantee B.S. on board. Beware ! I asked in the on board store prior to arriving in GC and the clerk said they would match any price. When I tried to get a "match" after leaving GC the clerk told me I had to provide a receipt. Why wouldn't I just buy it on GC as the price was 15% less. Typical of the "on board" ripoff.
