You might want to consider taking the ferry to St. John right from Charlotte Amalie, since the new dock is on the west side of that ferry dock. Even before Crown Bay, we would generally use that ferry, or go to St. John from Charlotte Amalie, and then ferry back to Red Hook. But it makes even more sense now since you'll be taxi-ing right past the Charlotte Amalie ferry dock. It's a good choice if you enjoy the ferry ride as much as St. John (we do).

That is an idea! Is it a "walkable" distance from the cruise dock to the ferry dock?

I have read on this board (no personal experience with the new pier) that it is about a 30 minute walk in an industrial area. So not a lot to see. We are walkers, however (we used to walk from the other Havensight pier to the center of Charlotte Amalie), so we might try it one direction or the other.
