Tea And Coffee

I have been on MSC in the Med last year (2005) and am just back from a transatlantic crossing on Armonia from Genoa to Rio. Overall I am an MSC fan but also being a tea lover this is one area they could vastly improve on, cheaply and easily.

Unfortunately tea and coffee was only available on deck (the buffet restaurant and the open buffet) during breakfast, after which it was drained. Then it was available for 45 minutes during (a very good) afternoon tea from 4pm. However it was always available, free of charge from room service (beverages and breakfast are free). There was a good selection of top quality teabags (Twinings), green teas, decaf, fruit etc. The supplied coffee was perfectly ok for me, but some liked it, some hated it. More black marks: the water was never hot enough and the cups are tiny!

I learned from my first cruise and packed a sealed and insulated mug. I could be seen topping it up at 10am which kept me going on deck until afternoon tea. At breakfast I got around the problem of the small cups by using the cereal bowls (just like a large mug but without the handle, it even fitted on the saucer). Despite my embarrassment many people were copying me by the end of the cruise!

Coffee or tea and iced water is not readily supplied at dinner either. A bit of persuasion got us both but it was disappointing to have to request it and set a bad impression at the start of the cruise.

The coffee from the coffe shop is excellent. Italian style, small shots of espresso.

We will be on the Musica next Sunday and need to know if there are Free Tea and Coffee avalable at any time on the ship. I know they are avalable on room survice but at a charge.

Hi Big L:

I see that you will join us next Sunday on MSC MUSICA.

Friends who just returned from MSC MUSICA told me that you can order free-of-charge coffee and tea as your service.

We will have a small water boiler with us and get some teabags from the breakfast buffet. They did it too.

Regards,

Hi HEINBLOED,

Nice to hear from someone else going on the MSC MUSICA next week. I have had a posting to see if any more cruise critic members will be with us but no replies. Judy and I will be coming over from Leeds in the UK.We have booked this cruise last minute. We also have tried different cruise lines and this will be our first one with MSC. We like best the NCL cruises with their free style. Are going on the Pearl in May to Alaska. Let us know your cabin number and we can meet up for a drink.

Hi Laurence:

first of all Happy New Year + Happy Cruising.

All my best wishes for 2007.

I guess you booked with the cruise-specialists last minute??? We were looking in whole Europe for a good single-bargain and it came through UK. The last price incl. flight was great.

We made last month the very first commercial cruise on NORWEGIAN PEARL = the ferry substitution service from Rotterdam to Southampton. And we were so nicely surprised that we book immediately on new NORWEGIAN GEM for this fall. The will also have a ferry substitution service again from Dover to Amsterdam. If you book in Continental Europe for just about 110 GBP!!!

But back to MSC MUSICA: Have you read the British comments on http://www.cruise.co.uk??? I am wondering even Englishmen complaint the food. This will be a lot of fun.

Any plannings for private shore excursions? I had some offers to go to Korinth from Piraeus and to Lindos from Rhodes but due to unsufficient number of persons. As we are five it was a unconvenient no. to have a big car and in some places you cannot have a mini-van.

We better should communicate details by e-mail.

Just write to MSC-MUSICA-2007(at)Nickname-on-tour.de

Please replace the expression Nickname by my Nickname HeinBloed as used here in the Forum. Safety measurements to have a lot of spams from such automated programmes going from one website to the next to check for e-mail-addresses.

So best regards from Germany,

HeinBloed

Hi HeinBloed,

A Happy New Year to you and your Family.

We have been on many cruises and most times booked well in advance but we only decided 10 days ago to have a holiday and this cruise came up on the internet. I have just read the English reports on the MSC Musica, you find some people say great and others say bad but you will always find this on all cruises. We have been on 2* to 5* ships and as long as you get value for money than you should be satisfied.

I like the comment on not many English on board that is on one of the reviews, that is great by us as we like to meet people from other countys.

Good Morning Laurence:

for me as German it's just fun to read that Englishmen can complain any food (typical prejudices...) but you are totally right - it's a question of personal expectations. I think if you are paying 399 GBP incl. flight you cannot expect the same as paying 1,000 GBP and going with CUNARD.

One German cruise-mate who started his voyage on 27.12.2006 on MSC MUSICA publishes his daily experience and it's really nice to read that there are also satisfied opinions from MSC MUSICA. He has a lot of fun and was not badly influenced by reports before. I guess a Belgium traveller who compares French Fries on an Italian ship must be disappointed if he is from the home country of French Fries (why are not the called Belgish fries if they are from Belgium???).

I am sure that we will have a great time onboard. You are like me: asking for details before - the better you are informed and prepared for a specific travel and the lower your personal expectations the less is the chance to be badly disappointed. After we are leaving from MSC MUSICA we will laugh about the impressions of the other.

And you are once more right: a ship could have 1* or 5* - only your own experience counts if the ship fits to you. So will not go with high expectations on BLACK PRINCE in the summer just to live for nice surprises!

The most important is: good staterooms (none has complaint so far), nice service (same), hopefully nice weather (I think no chance for complaining MSC or???), nice places to see and I hope: nice cruise-mates and company at the table. Anyway I wanted to start with a diet so its the perfect time to exercise etc...

Send me an e-mail and I'll tell you my stateroom no. for contacting onboard.

Now I have to continue my laundry... packing starts next days... this time we take the car so can everything we want with us!!!

Regards,

HeinBloed

Hi HeinBloed,

We are just going out to do some shopping in the sales so will e-mail you later. I also need to diet but never lost weight on a criuse. I go back to work tomorrow for four days after having a two week break for Christmas. It will seem funny then going on holiday again.
