Walkie Talkies to connect with kids while on board

Hello, cruisers.

Do walkie talkies usually work on the cruise ships so I can stay in touch with my kids while they are on the ship? Sometimes my kids lose track of time when they are having a good time, so I was just curious.

If yours was a good experience, please note the type of Walkie Talkie you used, and the mileage range, or any other tips you have.

Thanks for sharing!

They work great. We have Motorola 5-mile range ones. My husband has been down in the "bowels" of the ship at times while I was on the Lido Deck and we were able to talk with no problem. Plus, when we're on shore and he wants to do something different from me (shopping!), it's much easier to catch up with each other.

I suggest taking FRS radios that will let you go between the regular channels. There were lots of kids using radios who had no business doing so... find a quiet channel that other people aren't using, and please teach children how to use a radio properly if they have to do so...
