NeptunesGoddess Posted July 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2004 Hi, Here I am with what will probably be a dumb question once again. We have a gty OV and I was wondering if the window opens. My hubby asked me and I realized that I have no idea. Anyone care to enlighten me?
RWolver672 Posted July 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2004 No, the windows don't open. Oceanview cabins are on the lower levels of the ship. If the seas were rough and somebody left their window open...well, you know what the outcome would be.:(
Beffy1167 Posted July 22, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2004 OKOK...forgive me for laughing at your question. Truly, I'm not laughing so much at you as remembering myself wondering that very same thing before I boarded my first cruise. And DH asking about it before HIS first cruise! It brought back the memories and anticipation and the joy of that experience. Thank you for posting it! No, they don't open....even the ones that are well above the water line. Too bad, though! DeckCadet Posted July 22, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2004 No they do not open. And FYI when the RMS Britannic, (Younger post-sinking) sister to the Titanic, was a hospital ship during WW1 it was either torped or mined and sank even faster due to the open windows. betsyrossapk Posted July 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2004 So are you saying all those bungee cords need to be removed? Would that give some xtra time in case of an emergency :)

tinydancer21 Posted July 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 22, 2004 http://www.hospitalshipbritannic.com/the_disaster.htm OMG how sad. :( I don't like reading about ships sinking right before I cruise. :(
serene56 Posted July 22, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 22, 2004 All cabins that used for passengers are above the sea water. Lots of first time cruisers think the Riveria deck is below the sea line.
Layditx Posted July 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 22, 2004 ok, now I don't recall where I heard this, but someone thought "ocean view" meant underwater, looking in the ocean!!! I thought that was soooo funny!

mathgal Posted July 23, 2004 #14 Share Posted July 23, 2004 I was showing a friend our cruise pictures from the Paradise and she saw one of our cabin with the porthole windows. I had taken the picture at night so the portholes were dark and she thought our cabin was under the water!! Our friends were in the cabin next to us (also porthole windows) and a flying fish had landed in the ledge of the window and died. He stayed there for the whole cruise!! Too bad their windows didn't open so they could get rid of him! If anyone wants to see what the porthole window cabins look like (Category 5A) just check the link below to see my pictures.
