Liquor Package

I see there is a liquor package available to purchase from the Celebrity website, to be delivered to a cabin during a cruise. It includes soda, crackers, etc. What size are the liquor bottles?

 

This is the same website that you can purchase onboard credit in $25 increments.

I just bought our bottles this AM for our Summit 9/10 cruise via their site. I was told they are 750 ml and we went for it, will still bring a great scotch in the luggage just in case... We enjoy that pre-dinner drink and since we are in a RS I figured what is one more pre-paid expense! It will keep the bill down at the end of the cruise. Also we are in Oregon where booze is state controlled so we are used to a higher price then most folks. Hope that helps, some folks told me it was the airline size bottles which X says is not the case at all.

We had ordered the liquor packages for our Alaska Infinity cruise in June. They were 1 liter bottles. Our ship departed from Vancouver,BC, maybe that was why they were liters and not the 750ml you were told.

Stretch, I was unable to do that when I was on the Summit. They hold it until the last night, if I remember correctly. That is the official policy. But some on here have said that they were able to talk the clerk in the ship's store to let them take their purchase to their cabin.

We bought liquor to be delivered to the cabin prior to our cruise aboard Princess, but I did not think you could do this on Celebrity.

 

Someone please give instructions on how to do this and where. We are on the Century on Jan. 22, 2005.

 

It was so much better to not have to hastle with bringing our own just for the before dinner drinks in our cabin. We truly buy the ship's liquor almost all of the time. Like most, we just would like a cocktail while getting ready or maybe a nightcap on the balcony.

Why would RCL let you take the liquor to you room and not X. Same owners..?

Are these liquor packages something new? The prices seem OK-for example a bottle of Grey Goose, box of premium nuts and a six-pack of soda or tonic is $55, delivered to your cabin. In my neighborhood a 3/4 litre bottle of Grey Goose alone is about $36, including tax. Plus, you don't have to hassle with buying, packing and "smuggling" liquor on board. The prices are listed on Celebrity's website with other "bon voyage" gifts.

Thanks for the info! On RCI they even advertise that on the first night you can purchase liquor from the duty free store. We bought 3 liters of liquor and were only charge $9.50 extra to take it to our cabin. This surcharge is usually per bottle but on the first night we were only charged for one. Our "bar tab" runs around $150.00 a day anyway (including wine at dinner) so it really doesn't affect their bar revenue in our case anyway. I guess I'll just order some gifts for us before we leave.

We bought our packages thru X using there 800# for gifts and extras. Our bottles will be waitng for that first neat scotch! Prices seemed OK to us. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. We are going to do that for sure, and also buy on board credits each month for the next four months using our credit card. By the time we go, we should have our final bill pretty much paid for.

 

That is, if we could just stay out of the casino.

Exactly what we have done! First vacation ever that is all paid for in advance with no credit card bills to bring you down at the end... as losg as we can stay away from the casino also!:D

We did not know about the liquor packages that Celebrity offers as prepaid bon voyage gifts, until I stumbled across this thread. It seems like a great idea.

 

We cruised on Mercury in March, 2004 and Century in May, 2004, and on each occasion smuggled our gin and vodka aboard, using the small airline bottles [which are very cheap here in our Nevada tax haven], and on Century, I had two non-leakable plastic quart bottles full of gin and vodka in my carry-on.

 

To see the information on these liquor packages, go to the Celebrity web site, click on "Prepare To Sale", and then click on to "bon voyage gifts", and you are there.

 

In looking at the liquor packages for $50.00, we can get one package with Beefeater's gin [my brand] and Absolute [Nedra's brand]. Each package includes premium nuts and six cans of soda. On Century, several times we ordered six cans of ginger ale, and each time was charged $13.50 for delivery to our Royal Suite. We could probably buy each package for about $40.00 on shore, so you are paying $10.00 per package in my humble opinion for the convenience of having them delivered on embarkation to your suite.

 

This is better than running the risk of confiscation or even the trouble of flying all across the country and having a possible leak.

Thanks again to all for this information. We are on the Century 1/22/05 with 10 others as it is a 40th anniv. for friends. We decided that we would buy her casino credits and him the liquor package to their cabin with his favorite scotch. Such a deal.

 

And for us, we will buy two packages for John and one for me. We also decided to buy our casino credits on our credit card before the cruise, have it paid for and get our miles for flying. Where else can you gamble and earn miles.

I did the math on one of the other boards so here goes. Not sure how to breakdown 750ml to ounces, but the normal bottle is a quart, 32 ounces. By bar standards a drink consists of one ounce of booze. The ship is going to charge you at least $4.00 per drink, plus a 15% gratuity. So 32 ounces of booze equates to $128 plus 15%. If you pay $50 to have a bottle delivered to your room you will save at least $78. I agree the $50 might be a bit overpriced, but when it comes down to dollars and cents the package is pretty reasonable.:rolleyes:

I think your math is a bit optimistic. The bottles offered by Celebrity are 750 mL, or 25.3 oz. A standard bar drink is 2 oz., not 1 oz. - so figure on getting 12-13 drinks out of a bottle. At $4.00 each, that's $48-$52 - which is on par with the cost of the bottle in the first place, but far from a good deal.

 

I for one am planning on getting a couple of bottles for the room through Celebrity. It beats the hassle of packing and lugging glass bottles around. Now if Celebrity only offered some good single malt.........

 

Does anyone know if it is possible to get additional bottles from Celebrity once onboard? I'm assuming that one can get wine from the normal wine list delivered to your room, but what about booze?

Sorry for the miscalculation. I guess Texas has a different bar standard. But at any rate, it is worth not having the hassle of trying to carry aboard.
