Empress review LATELY

Recommended Posts

Here's a pic of the bed in JS 9604 (12/29/06):

That new bedding looks awesome!!

We have an aft cabin on deck 9 reserved for October. We decided we wanted a larger balcony more than the larger cabin. However, that JS looks smallllllllll, can't imagine how small our cabin will be with no sitting area. Actually, I did see a picture, but it wasn't from a great angle.

I hope our cruise to Bermuda on the Empress works out. DH works away and he has no idea where he'll be in October. I have my fingers crossed.

I would love to see more pictures of the Empress. Tks! :)

I was on the 5 night New Year's cruise a couple of weeks ago and had the aft JS on deck 8 (8686) that I believe is very much like the one above it on deck 9. The cabin is a little larger than a standard outside, but it has no sitting area. What it does have is a huge balcony - I estimated it at about 18 feet by 5 feet. There were two lounge chairs, two small chairs and a small table on it. There are a couple of down sides though, the balcony is fully open from above which means people on deck 10 by the rock wall can look down on you. The second thing is there can sometimes be some soot from the funnel, especially after they bring the engines up to full speed, so you may want to wipe down the chairs before sitting in them.

The new bedding was very nice. Other than that, the only changes I saw on the ship since I was on it last May was they replaced the carpeting on the pool and sun deck and they replaced the chess board from the area in front of the pool bar with wood decking.

Here's another angle of the room:

It's kind of hard to see, but on each side of the bed there are small nightstands, each with a small drawer and open space underneath.

I can't see the picture!!!

Would you be so kind as to try again. I would so love to see it.

Tks. :p

Thank you so much for writing. I have been trying for months to find someone that stayed in one of those aft cabins. Thank you Thank you.

A few questions: Would you stay in them again? The soot didn't keep you from enjoying the balcony, did it?

Could you please please post some pictures or email them to me. sylvia_826@hotmail.com (that is an underscore after sylvia and then 826)

Thank you so much. :)

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the cabin, although I have found links to some on other threads (do a search for 8686 on this board). The cabin has a bed area, an open space in front of the balcony door (okay, it does have a small table in it), a set of four large drawers, am ample closet with safe, a small desk/vanity with four smaller drawers, and the standard tiny bathroom that we have all come to know and love, and of course the huge balcony that's about have the size of the cabin itself (or so it seemed).

I would definitely stay in that cabin again. There was only the occasional fleck of soot, just check the chairs before you sit down. Oh, and one other small downside, there is no cover on the balcony if it is raining - but then the rain washes the soot away!

The TV is still that small, in fact, it's probably the same one in the picture on top of the THREE large drawers - I could have sworn there were four, oh well, mind like a steel sieve. The only thing that looks different is the bedding and that there is now a small coffee table at the foot of the bed.

I am so grateful for your information. It seems there is tons of info out there for some of the other ships, such as the Navigator that we are sailing on in 57 sleeps!! However, not a lot for the Empress. :o

I am really excited about the size of the balcony on the Empress though. My DH and I love balconies. Even if we only spend a small amount of time on them, such as breakfast and an evening drink. Sometimes we think we can book a cruise without a balcony and save lots of $$$, but we always give in and book the balcony. :p

I am prepared for the small size of the Empress aft cabin, I think! I will quickly move out to the balcony as soon as I get there and that will excite me enough to forget the size of the cabin. lol We spend a small amount of time on the balcony, but even less time in the cabin! Right! :)

Seriously, nothing else has changed?? lol Not even the carpet???

Is this a picture of your aft balcony??

Real smooth. We were notified the day before about meeting at the Purser's Desk the next morning. We waited to be the last two people off the ship and then we were escorted off and through customs and back onboard the ship. For about two hours we felt like the owners of the ship. We were able to go anywhere we wanted and best of all there were no "Chair Hogs".
