SherriM Posted January 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2007 So here is our frightening thought...we leave for Hawaii on SUPERBOWL Sunday!! Our departure time is 5PM. But we haven't yet received our DOCS so not sure when we can board. Does anybody know? Will we be able to see OUR Chargers BEAT UP on whoever they are playing?? Fingers crossed tightly that they get in, of course! Ship leaves from San Diego which is the good news as we live in San Diego county... Does anybody have any suggestions or consoling thoughts? Go CHARGERS!
Navy_Chief Posted January 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2007 HAL carries the Superbowl so you can see it on board. A little early to predict a winner yet isn't it?
jtl513 Posted January 8, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2007 Usually boarding starts around 11:00a to 11:30a and cabins are ready around 1:30p - unless something delays the disembarkation of the previous cruisers.
RedmondCruiser Posted January 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2007 I'm on the same cruise and it just dawned on me yesterday about the conflict with the super bowl. We are going to board as soon as possible. They should have the game on the wide screen TV next to the casino. You should also be able to pick it up in your room. The cruise lines do a descent job on major sporting events. My wife will be ticked off that I'm going to disappear and watch football as soon as we get on the ship. Even after 34 years of marriage I still have the same problem. I do not think that Seattle will appear again in the super bowl so it may not be such a problem. Host Walt Posted January 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2007 Being a Charger fan myself, and seeing as how the ship sails from San Diego, I seriously expect that you'll be seeing the most important part, when LT scores the winning TD in the 4th quarter. Most likely HAL will have the Super Bowl on all public room TV's. Your only difficulty will be unpacking and/or dining and missing the big score. (I have no official word, but we sailed on the Rotterdam in Europe during World Cup and every set in all public rooms was broadcasting the games all the time.) San Diego Cruzer Posted January 8, 2007 #7 Share Posted January 8, 2007 Sherri - I'm with you - GO CHARGERS!!!! From all I've heard HAL should have the Superbowl on the ship, at least in the Sports Bar and hopefully everywhere else! Have a great cruise. SherriM Posted January 9, 2007 Author #8 Share Posted January 9, 2007 Usually boarding starts around 11:00a to 11:30a and cabins are ready around 1:30p - unless something delays the disembarkation of the previous cruisers. So for a 5PM departure they typically start boarding at 11AM? That is good to know. We should be boarded and ready to watch the game SOMEWHERE onboard then. What time do they usually do the ship drills?? Thank you for your post! oh...and GO CHARGERS...had to get that in... ;)

Having only been on one other cruise and it was not a HAL...we weren't sure of the boarding times, etc. This message board is so very helpful! Yes, I agree that it should be a big day for LT...what a nice guy he is too! None of that show-boat, hotdog stuff...a class act. Again thank you for your input! :) I'll say it quietly now...if LT can be classy...i better go low key myself! ;) Go San Diego Chargers! <-- Using their Retro pale blue this time

jerseygirl3 Posted January 10, 2007 #15 Share Posted January 10, 2007 We've been on cruises the last four years during the SuperBowl. Not a problem. You will board in plenty of time to catch the kick-off. We've found it really fun to be onboard for a Super Bowl game. This year we'll be departing the Westerdam on Super Bowl Sunday, but we're spending an extra day in Florida so we can watch the game. Enjoy Hawaii! Thank you for the message and sharing your experience! My fear was that the entire boarding process would encompass the ENTIRE game time. Course if our CHARGERS don't make it - we just MAY not care! :( Of course, it is always a great excuse to down a beer or two! Hope you have an awesome trip too! pcs15 Posted January 15, 2007 #25 Share Posted January 15, 2007 As an avid Ravens fan, my sympathies to you Chargers fans... It was not a good weekend. The only bright spot right now is the fact we will be cruising for the Superbowl as well, only in the Caribbean. There's always next year.....
