Chankanaab Park or Playa Uvas (or both?)

This board is great! I've been reading up on beaches and snorkeling, and thought I'd ask you all which of these two you recommend for a relaxing beach experience with snorkeling off the beach. We have our own snorkel gear and just want to strike out on our own. Also, my hubby has fair skin and will need some shade for when he's not snorkeling. Both of these spots sound good and I understand they are right near one another. Are they within walking distance of each other? What is the charge to just use the beach at Playa Uvas (no activities)? I don't seem to find that anywhere. Also, others have mentioned how many ships are scheduled in each port on a given day--do any of you know where I can find that info? We will be in Cozumel on Jan. 26th and Costa Maya on the 25th?
