There is no guarantee on weather in Alaska. It used to be if you booked an am trip and it was canceled you could maybe get on a later trip. This is rarely true now due to full bookings- every day. So book where your time fits best and hope for the best. :)

Saxman is easier to get to, and plenty of operators run from the dock for about $30pp, a tour is necessary in my opinion due to the needed commentary.

Totem Bight is a beautiful park with totems and a clan house. Sourdough, in the past used to run some combo tours with Saxman. A good option if you could get it. :) I have driven to Totem Bight, good option if you have a long day in port. You can also get a brief look at both areas from your cruiseship with binoculars. Saxman south of downtown, Totem Bight north.
