Precruise Hotel in Montreal?

We plan to spend 2 nights in Montreal before our cruise. We are not familiar with the city. Any suggestions on hotels near the main tourist areas and cruiseport? How easy is it to get from Dorval Airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruiseport? We appreciate any info.

We stayed after our Maasdam cruise in May in a very nice B&B in Old Town Montreal. We had a large room with a whirlpool tub in the bathroom and an electric fireplace in the living area. The name of the B&B is the Les Passants du Sans Soucy Auberge. The breakfast that was provided each morning was delicious and the service was also excellent. They had great suggestions for places to eat in the area.

The price for our stay wasn't cheap but it was in Canadian dollars which made it a little less painful.

The hotel only had 6 to 8 rooms and you can see them on the web site. It is located on rue St Paul which is one of the oldest streets in Montreal.

Hi, I'm from Montreal. Passant du Sans-Soucy is well-located in a touristy area in Old Montreal, with a lively street nearby. If you're looking for something more traditional, you may want to try Hotel Place d'Armes or Hotel St-James, both on St-Jacques st. in the Old Montreal. Both have great restaurants too. Or, if you'd rather be closer to the shopping malls, museums and downtown, try Le Germain, on Mansfield, which has great bedding and pillows that you can buy (they'll deliver worldwide!). I have other suggestions too; let me know what you're looking for!

It costs approximately 30-40 dollars (Canadian) to go from Dorval airport to Montreal downtown and the ride is approximately 20-40 minutes, or even more if at peak hours. Dorval is somewhat remote from the nicer areas and unless you really love ordinary suburbs, I don't recommend spending the night there if you can avoid it.

Taxis are not expensive in Montreal. You will find it both easy and cheap to get around and to the port.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions for our precruise Montreal visit. One other question. Does L'Aerobus service most of the city? Even to the CruisePort? Would it be a good way to get from the airport to downtown? Or just a hassle? Thanks again & Veronique have a great trip!

Sorry, I have never tried the Aerobus so don't know where it goes exactly.

Last month we stayed at the Sheraton which is not from the cruise port. From the port to the hotel is $10 Canadian.

Because we had so much luggage, we had to get a van to go from the Sheraton to the Trudeau (Dorval) Airport. The cost was $40 Canadian.
And it took us less than half an hour to get there.

The Sheraton is close to a lot of the underground malls.

If you don't mind walking, it is about 1 1/2 miles to Old Montreal.

If you're looking for a location near the port, we just stayed at the SpringHill Suites on St. Jean Baptiste. About a block from waterfront and Science Museum, Hop on/off bus and $5 Cdn cab ride to ship port. The room, not huge, had king size bed, sitting area, coffee maker, fridge, microwave. The included continental breakfast was quite hearty. Room price including all taxes was $138 US.
