Group Cruise would be fantastic!!

I am definitely the planner of the family. My g/f is a "Yes, Honey, Whatever you want honey, Here is the Credit Card Honey" I will never argue with that!;) She does get just as excited as I do though when I tell her about the details.

Hey y'all,

Thanks for the pearls of wisdom. You have given me a lot more ammunition for my plan. I used to travel by air and car a lot before I retired, as a matter of fact arranging travel was part of my job.:D All the new air travel rules are mind boggling.

As I am the planner, Connie's job is tell me how much $$$ we have to spend. She just says "you figure out where we can go and what we can do when we get there." Funny, we always end up close to water!

After THE cruise, we are headed to the great lakes area, hmm.... wonder if there are any "boat rides" up that way?

Hi Ladies! Was just reading through your thread and I agree that the charter companies (Olivia, RSVP & Atlantis) have gotten out of hand with their pricing! My husband have been on four RSVP cruises and have decided to take a break from them. This year, we have booked the post-Thanksgiving cruise through Pied Piper (off to the Caribbean...yeah!). Right now there is over 600 of us booked on the Jewel of the Seas. We were able to get a Balcony cabin for $620/each as opposed to the $1700 we were going to pay for a balcony this year with RSVP. Would love to see more of you ladies on the cruise! Last year I met so many wonderful women on the RSVP cruise and spent A LOT of time hanging out with them in the casino. :D

The TSA website is for finding out what you are allowed to bring on the airplane with you. You can find a lot of safety information on there.

To find out if your flight is on time, you can usually check the airline's website or call them up. Some airlines have an automated system where they call YOU if your flight is delayed, but you have to sign up for this by calling or using their website to request it.

candiesx2,

Hey girl looks like etoile took good care of you. I work for an airline and I always check the TSA website before I travel. Things change all the time.

Just ask my partner who tied to put a big tube of tooth paste into my carryon bag. Then when the TSA agents schooled me for having it...Missy said " but it's only half full meaning it should be less than the 3 oz limit " Yeah TSA don't play I got a dirty look and the tooth paste when into the trash can.

Good luck on your cruise! I'm so ready to go on anther cruise. So when you get back you'll have to tell us all about your cruise. Have a great time!

I'm the planner too! My wife loves for me to take care of all of the details (which I love) and she gets excited once I've made the decisions about where, when and how. I usually plan one big vacation a year (usually a cruise), but we are now looking at doing at least two (maybe more).

We almost booked a repositioning cruise on the West Coast on Princess on May 5th (we just got off the Island Princess on 3/12/07), but I decided to save the money. It's a good thing as her computer just decided to stop working, so we bought her a new one with some of the money we would have spent on that cruise.

We work from home, so our computers keep us in business!

I've narrowed things down for next spring to either the Diamond Princess RT to Hawaii or the Island to the Panama Canal. We will most likely add either a West Coast repositioning cruise, or another Alaska cruise to our trips next year.

Just watched a program on the Travel Channel tonight about one of RCCL's Alaska cruises. Even though we've been there before, we still want to do the Dog Sleds, etc. that we missed on our Olivia Cruise a few years ago.

One of the "downfalls" of Olivia (besides price) is that they don't sail during peak seasons. On the trip we took to Alaska with Olivia, it was too early in the season for the dog sleds, etc. They seem to catch the beginning or end of the seasons, so you miss alot of the main attractions (Whales, etc.)

Hope all of your upcoming trips are great. can't wait to hear about them.

I do see us all on a "group" trip real soon!

My son works for a company that sells cruises, I'm not sure if they do group cruises or not (it operates as a timeshare exchange but you don't have to exchange to book through them), but I can have him check to see if we can get some kind of deal for a large group.

The problem is going to come in getting everyone to agree to a destination. How about if everyone list their top 3 choices and we will go with the majority rule and start there in the planning stages.

Top 3:

1. Canada/New England

2. Alaska

3. Caribbean-(Western, Southern, Eastern)

I am sure people will have preferences based on port proximity, do the best you can!

We probably won't be able to do summer of 2008, since we're doing the big Rosie cruise in March '08, but I vote for Caribbean first, Canada/New England second, Bermuda third (just in case I can swing another cruise!).

We are flexible (just the idea of being able to pull off a cruise like this would be exciting).

Choices: Alaska and the Caribbean for starters.

Just think if we can do this once the possibilites we have to continue- opps getting ahead of myself....

We might be able to do summer 2008, not sure yet! After 10 years in the workforce I am going back to school full-time, so I won't be able to go on vacations anytime we please anymore, so we are trying to figure out what to do about our 10th anniversary trip that we were going to take in February. So summer 2008 MIGHT be okay, we'll have to see!

My choices...

1. SOUTHERN caribbean

2. WESTERN caribbean

3. Canada/New England

Hi everyone - great to find so many people posting here. The read has been very enjoyable and informative.

My partner (wife) and I are leaving on our first cruise Apr.22 on a Panama Canal Transit with Hal.

Cruise Critic has been a marvelous learning experience - my partner has participated a lot more than I have over the last year. We booked our trip over a year in advance - I see a lot of you do the very same thing.

Getting a large group together to cruise (or possibly taking most of a ship) is soooooooooooooo appealing.

I too was worried about the dress code however as most people have already stated slacks and dressy top or suit jacket work just fine.

Way in the beginning I called HAL and addressed the "dress" issue so to speak LOL

I was assured I did not necessarily NEED to be in a dress to arrive in the dining room.

We are not concerned about being on a main stream cruise (main stream is where we live) We will just be ourselves and as a number of you have pointed out about yourselves (we are not in your face kinda people) but we are who we are.

Very glad to see the posts about the dancing - one area where I was a bit apprehensive (not paying all that money - to not dance with my wife)

Sorry this got long - happy to wade thru your thread and will now add this one to my regular if somewhat sporadic stops on CC.

If anyone is going to be on the same cruise as us please post would be great to meet new people.

Winnie, I can't tell you much about the land portion of Alaska. Our cruise last summer was round trip from Vancouver. But you are going to LOVE Alaska. The scenery is absolutely breath taking. I hope you are doing a whale watch of some kind. There are no words to describe the feeling of seeing an enormous humpback coming out of the water and then his tail as he dives back under. Simply incredible! Make sure you go to one of the glaciers if you can. Another amazing experience in and of itself. I'm sure whatever you do, you will have a fantastic time. Can't wait to hear about it when you get back!! (My brother and sister in law live in Tulsa!)

:)

Blondy, don't know how I missed your post, but I was not ignoring you!

I've been on whale watching trips from San Francisco and Bar Harbor, Maine. These animal are fantastic! I go on the whale watching tours where and when I can. Connie gets to pick one big trip (glaciers for her) and I get to pick one (train trip (White Pass Scenic Railway) for me! We LOVE to travel. Go Tulsa Golden Hurricanes!
