Rich500 Posted June 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Hello, Our cruise this summer will take us to the ports of Villefranche and Naples, among others. Can anyone provide directions from the Ports to the nearest train stations? From Villefranche we are looking to travel to Nice and from Naples we are heading to Pompeii As a possible thead, if anyone know directions from other ports to the nearest train station add them to this post! Thanks Rich

Rare Hlitner Posted June 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2004 Villefranche - Exit the tender pier and turn towards your right. Walk down the street along the water keeping the water on your right. After a few minutes you will see a long stairway that goes up the hill on your left. These stairs lead to the small train station (at the top). To go to Nice, you would go to the far tracks in order to head West. Its only about a 10 min train ride. In Naples its a bit more complicated. Its a good mile walk (probably closer to 1 1/3 miles) from the port to the train station. Its to your right as you exit the port, but its a few blocks inland from the water (you can get a map and directions on the ship). An alternative to walking is to find a taxi (not always easy) or take a public bus. This is a pretty busy train station, and you will need to buy your tickets on the main floor and than go downstairs to the lower track level. The train to Pompeii is run by a private railroad called the Circumvesuviana (they have quite a few different routes). You will want to get off the train at Pompeii Scavi... not Pompeii. From Pompeii Scavi its a short walk to the entrance of the ruins. Rich, if you post the names of the "other ports" we can try and help.
