Camp Carnival

I have seen many posts about the activities on camp carnival, the one I have a question about is the arcade, do the children pay to play the arcade games while they are in they camp? 8 days at the arcade could be costly.

Thanks.

They do not bring the kids to the arcade when in Camp Carnival.

That is something you would have to do on your own.

Yes,it's very costly so I allowed my children one afternoon in the arcade. They are, however, only 6 and 8. For older children, that may not be enough time.

Born2crooz is right. The arcade is not usually in camp carnival. What we do is pay our kids a hand full of coins or a dollar or two to do odd jobs around the house. Then they have their own money to use in the arcade or any other way they see fit. And we get some help cleaning up the house. Our kids usually end up with at least $30.00. We tell them up front that that's all they get and they'd better make it last.

Another option would be to rent a Gameboy 2 for the week. One CCer said that her kid had a blast with it and didn't want to get off of the ship.

I can confirm that the games were $1.00 a pop and not exactly in the best condition. We dropped $80 in 4 days between the 2 young kids (9, 9). Not bad considering 1 me dropped twice amount that in the casino! :)

We leave in 2 wks on the Elation and my son, 10, is a video arcade nut. (I'm glad they don't take him there in the CCamp!) Anyone know what the games cost on the Elation?

And what do mean by "renting Gameboy 2"? He owns one and we figured he would bring it to play with when he's "bored".

When we were on the Pride last year, my nieces were taken to the arcade one day for about an hour by the Camp Carnival staff. They set aside a very limited number of games (5 or 6) that the kids could play for free. Other than that very limited time of free play with the camp staff, the games in the arcade where quite expensive at $1.00 per play. However, they also had nintendo and play stations in the Camp Carnival area that the kids could play for free while in camp.

We just returned from Elation. Our 10 year old was taken to arcades twice while in CC. Once during regular hours (daytime) and once during "all night friday slumberless party" We had to pay both times or he couldn't participate. He could just watch others. Most games were 1.00, although 2 were .50. The worst problem was that they were almost always out of order. Be careful if your child has an active sign and sail card. They can get tokens right there in the arcade. We made our younguns cards inactive.

I wasn't sure how the s&s card worked for the kids (our 3 yr. old won't have one- I assume) but I'm glad to hear that I can make it inactive for purchases. Our son is very good about things like that but... this is a cruise with lots of temptation. What did your son do most of the time? Did he enjoy the CC? Were there lots of kids his age on your cruise? I worry about mine because he can be a loner and shy around new kids.

double decker---your three year old WILL have a sign and sail card. EVERY passenger needs one to get on and off the ship.

You may trust your children with their sign and sail card but do you trust others? You child may lose their card. (get a lanyard so its accessible for them) ?

I figured she might need one but I can hold it for her, right? It's only for excursions. She will be with us most of the time or in Camp Carnival.

Someone mentioned that you could make the card inactive for purchases but can you place a certain amount on the card so he has a spending limit?

Thank you so much for your advise & comments. Our first cruise is just 12 days away and I have learned so much from the boards.

My children both had S&S cards but I held them for them. Camp Carnival did take the 9-11 year olds to the arcade one day and a few games were played for free. Most had to be paid for so we sent $5.00 with her. You can use your S&S card to get tokens but since I was holding her card she could not use it. She is pretty responsible and probably would not have used it anyway but better safe than sorry. She came back a told of one girl that used her card and charged $20.00 on it. I bet her parents were happy. Most games were $1.00 but there were some for $.50.

Take a look at some of the other posts. I've read people set a $25 or $35 limit on the sail and signs for their kids thru the pursers office. I'm not sure as our daughter is 4 and I keep it with me.

Our 10 and 7 year olds had a great time at CC. We often had to drag them out of there..My grandson is shy also and has a hard time meeting people. He did just fine..By day 2 he had a group of "friends". CC has video games for them to use and I think they did that quite a lot..They played cards, pingpong, had a scavanger hunt...I have the CC caper if you want a copy, I can scan it in. Email me at: arnp98@yahoo.com and I will send it too you...Sharon

I need some advice. I posted earlier about our 10ds & 3dd. We leave in 12 days and I have been working on excursions. We stop in Progresso, Cozumel & Belize. I'm not sure what to do in Progresso but I found the Dolphin Encounter for Cozumel. Both the kids LOVE dolphins, etc. (We live in Houston and head up to SeaWorld every chance we get.) Here is the problem: my dh, ds and I would love to do the cave tubing in Belize but my daugthter is too young. Is it bad to leave her in CC? Part of me says she will never know, especially since she goes to daycare M-F at home, and part of me feels guilty for not including her. Any opinions? Do you think she will love CC that much that she won't mind? or care?

Doubledecker, we cruised with my 4 year old last fall and had a similar dilemma of whether to leave him in CC while we enjoyed an excursion . . . but we decided we were only probably going to be in Panama once and to go for it so we did. We took a tour of the Panama Canal (which we knew he wouldn't enjoy), and when we returned to the ship, we decided to grab a quick snack before we picked him up from CC. We ended up seeing the kids up in the ice cream area and had to hide from my son so he wouldn't see us!! We sat and watched and he was having a blast with the other children - they were making ice cream sundaes. After they finished, they walked off hand in hand to the elevators - it was really cute.

Lib0007, thanks for the info, we are taking our 3 yr old daughter on the Sensation this week and were wondering about leaving her for a little while while we are in Cozumel, probably at night. We didn't know if she would like it or not, but it sounds like there may be a good chance she will so Mommy and Daddy can have a couple hours to themselves! Thanks!

In Belize we chose not to take our 4 year old on shore. There wasn't anything for her to do and the tender was not great. It was best for her and she had a great time. I would not suggest leaving her behind for every port but what is wrong with doing it for just one?
