Cras108er Posted January 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2007 My Wife and i are scheduled to cruise on the JOS in about three weeks. SUddenly, I have visions of something happening to forestall our plans andthat sucking sound is all our hard earned money going down the drain. I have two questions: 1. Is it to late to purchase insurance? 2. Where is the best place to purchase it? 3. How much (ballpark) does it cost? Thanks Cras108er

Sue L Posted January 22, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Also try STATRAVEL.COM, they are a student travel site, but insure anyone. I have used them several times and the price is right with great coverage. 48$ for 7 days. I made one claim and had full payment in 2 weeks, just had to provide copies of medical bills and had no trouble.

I used travelguard after reading many posts by people who have had claims. They seem to be the best about paying out plus they are a A+ company. You can get the insurance immediately through email if you go to www.insuremytrip.com. Greg
CaribbeanBound Posted January 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2007 I usually get Travelex's Travelite product. Whatever you get, make it "primary" and make sure it is real insurance (and not just travel protection). Here are 16 VERY important things to consider when buying cruise insurance... *****

cruiseco Posted January 24, 2007 #8 Share Posted January 24, 2007 Get the travelex. Greg That's an impossible recommendation to make. For some people Travelex is the absolute worst choice. Without knowing the person's situation any recommendation is just a shot in the dark.
madelinerose Posted January 24, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2007 On this site there are two companies who issue "Cancel for Any Reason". There is an additional cost, but imho, definitely worth it. ;) Insuremytrip.com is where most people on here have gotten theirs. cherylandtk Posted January 24, 2007 #10 Share Posted January 24, 2007 1. Yes, you can still purchase it, but you will not be covered for pre-existing conditions (basically if anyone can't go on the trip because of an illness/condition which has been treated within the last 6 months; this includes family members who are not on the trip, but cause you to cancel) 2. I like tripinsurancestore.com, fast responses from Steve and good explanations and help sorting out which is the best policy for you. 3. Polices run about 5-10% of the cost of your trip, depending on which coverages you choose.

Without knowing the person's situation any recommendation is just a shot in the dark. That's right. You can't possibly know which plan works well for your trip until you get the right advice. There are a few situations where we never recommend Travelex and other times we avoid other companies.

Thanks Cras108er Hi Cras108er, 1) No, you can get trip insurance until the day before your trip 2) Go to www.google.com and search for "trip insurance". You'll find some good comparison sites that offer reputable companies. 3) In the 4% to 9% range of your trip's cost I hope this helps.

If you have to file a claim they can help you then. If you buy it on your own, you are on your own. I would think that the Insurance company would sell it to you at the same price that you would have paid had you bought it at the time of paying the balance due on your cruise. The insurance company comes out ahead here. Decide if you want just trip cancellation insurance are trip cancellation insurance plus medical insurance for seeing the ship doctor etc. I'm not sure but you may be able to buy either and or both. Medical care aboard can be expensive and sometimes usual hospitilization policies and medicare don't cover. It gets charge to your shipboard account.
