Day Pass at OMNI Hotel

TN Dreaming

Recommended Posts

Let me recommend a wonderful day.

The Holiday docked in Calica last Thursday and six of us hired a van and driver for the day. We went to the OMNI Hotel in Porta Aventura. The day pass price is $25 pp. This includes a beach lounge, towel, use of facilities (shower, pool), and $20 in food and drink credit. We had one of the best Mexican meals with impeccable service. The dolphin encounter is 50 yards from the front of the hotel. Snorkling near the beach was poor. But if you are willing to go out a bit, 1/4 mile and still no more than 6 feet deep there are some wonderful coral formations and plenty of fish. The beach itself was uncrowded, clean, and quiet.

This sure was a pleasant experience compared to the crowds in Cozumel on Wednesdy. I don't think I will return to Cozumel. This used to be a beautiful island. Now what Wilma didn't blow away has been destroyed by rampent commercialism. San Miguel has really lost it's character!

Children...yes. There was one sunbather who went topless periodically though.

Drive is about 20 KM from Calica.

We hired a van for 6 of us. The drive was available to take us anywhere we chose. We never left the area though. The cost was $120 total not each.:)

Food and water: Best Mexican food that I have ever eaten. They sold bottled water (expensive). See shopping for solution.

Shopping: All around the Dolphin Encounter basin are restaurants and shops. All seem to be very nice. Not the typical tourist shops. There is a small convenience store on the far side that sells cold drinks and bottled water amoung other things at a fraction of the cost.

You would do well to contact the hotel. They may be able to offer an age dependent discount for your children.

Again we were highly impressed. My in-laws, who have traveled the world, were even impressed! I only needed a clean, quite beach, nice coral, and descent food to be happy and this place far surpassed my needs.

Enjoy!
