snshn3 Posted June 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2004 I was told that I could easily take a hydrofoil on my own over to Capri, but how long is the ride? 20 minutes? an hour?? We are thinking of doing it ourselves and have lunch at the Quisisana Grand Hotel patio restaurant or going with the ship's "Capri with lunch" excursion, depeding on how far it is. Jacqueline Posted June 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2004 Enjoy- its fun and easy. My main advice is to set our EARLY so that you can also buy your return tickets at the same time. We left a little later and it was jammed. ilovhywd Posted June 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2004 Yes, it is 40-45 minutes. It is very easy to walk over to the hydrofoil yourself and buy your tickets. There are a few different companies, so you have to be sure to return to Naples on a boat from the same company as your trip to Capri, if you buy round-trip tickets. People who took the shore excursion on our ship were very disappointed. When you are in Capri town, be sure to find and walk down Via Tragara. The views from the lookout at the end of the lane are absolutely spectacular. I took some of my best photos there. Check out the smaller hotels on the Via Tragara. They look very charming. Rare Hlitner Posted June 9, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 9, 2004 I totally agree with Ilene. Actually, we love just spending a few hours sitting at a cafe in Capri town and people watching. You might want to consider taking the bus from Capri up to Anacapri (the ride is fun). Once you reach Anacapri (it only takes a few minutes) you can enjoy this pretty quiet residential town (it does have some cafes and shops) before you consider taking the "single" chair lift up to the top of the island (Monte Solar) where the view is spectacular. This chair life is not for those afraid of open chair lifts (you get pretty high off the ground) and its best enjoyed on a nice day. If you do this, allow about 2 to 2 1/2 hours for Anacapri and the chair lift. Hank
Mike Andrews Posted June 9, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 9, 2004 WWW.caprionline.com is a useful site for those planning a trip to Capri. From Marina Grande you can take the funicular or bus up to Capri Town and then the local bus service to Anacapri(for the chairlift to the summit of Monte Solaro)Buses also leave for the Blue Grotto(Grotta Azzurra)from Anacapri. Tania Posted June 9, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 9, 2004 If one took the hydrofoil from the ship to Capri, and the hydrofoil from Capri to Sorrento, how would you get back to the ship? Any ideas? * Star Princess 07/04 * Grand Med Diamond Princess 03/04 Mexican Riviera Sun Princess 12/03 Southern Caribbean Grand Princess 12/02 Western Caribbean Royal Princess 08/02 Western Europe & Iberia Ocean Princess 08/01 Alaska Pacific Princess 12/00 Holy Land & Greek Isles Carla C. 03/83 Southern Caribbean
Mike Andrews Posted June 9, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 9, 2004 You could take a hydrofoil (WWW.metrodelmare.com) but the timetable is limited or simply take the Circumvesuviana (WWW.vesuviana.it) train service from Sorrento to Naples and then take a cab or bus back to the ship.
