NCL Avg age of passengers

We have cruised on all the Holland America ships and I still call it the Geezer line. Avg. age seems like 80 . Therefore all or most activities are geared for that client base. Even saw home hostility once as some old crotchetty guy got in the mint boys face and was yelling at him for not giving him more mints as he left the dining room. I tapped him on the shoulder and said HEY pick on someone your own size, He turned around and looked up at me as I am 6' 6" 287 LBs and he left. We sail on the Jewel on 2-1-07. Looked like the excursions were for a much younger crowd. I am 58 my wife is 63. but we act like were 40. Well sometimes.

You will fit with NCL, as far as ages go. Check your mind set to freestyle cruising and you will be fine.

NCL probably has the largest age span of any line and doesn't fit into any one demography period. I think this is one of the problems some have, but we love. You will see families during holiday time: lots, you will see seniors but not nearly average age like HAL and you will see young people, but not as many as on RCI and Carnival. If there is an average age, I would guess it is about 50ish. We too found what you are saying about HAL. We had a great cruise in late Nov/early Dec but the biggest complaint was lack of activities because everyone was sleeping in their chairs all the time. LOL

I am organizing a group cruise for our church and a few other Episcopal churches in our area; even though we have lots of seniors I have decided on the Star over HAL. Energy level is the reason. NMnita

Ncl has most ages but more of the younger crowd than HAL anyway, although HAl is reportedly trying for a younger crowd with newer ships and different itineraries and leaving from NYC. A rule of thumb(mine anyway) is the longer the cruise the older the crowd.

I think it all depends on what cruise you are on. We went on the hoilday Spirit cruise and there were ages all across the board. We saw a 3 month old and then people in their 80's. But I was talking to the staff and they said that this was a "special" one and that after this one it goes back to routine, with less kids, and more adults. My whole family had a great time and we range from 17-50.

Every cruise we take has to be during school break because so many of us are teachers. Cant escape from the little monsters. Could be worsre, I could work for a nursing home then cruise on HAL!
some are going to come down on you, but I think that's pretty funnyyyyyy::::: NMnita

MY HUSBAND AND I JUST GOT OFF THE NORWEGIAN SUN ON SUNDAY AND WE FELT LIKE WE WERE IN A RETIREMENT HOME FOR A WEEK!! IM 24 AND HE IS 25!!

That must have been a fluke cause that's not usually the case. A lot depends on the time of year you are cruising. The Sun usually has a wide range of ages, particularly since the cruise leaves out of New Orleans.

We went on our first RCI on the Rhapsody out of Galveston last month & there was a much older crowd on that cruise - we're in our mid-fifties and felt like the youngsters. Still had a good time but it was rather quiet from what we're used to. Have been told by Rhapsody regulars that that was just a fluke on our cruise - usually a wide variety of ages. Won't stop us from going on RCI again!

Cruising on Carnival on their shorter cruises (3 & 4 nights) you'll find more of a party atmosphere. Their 7 night cruises are more family oriented.

I suggest you never even think about going on HAL then. Remember this time of the year all kids are in school so there are not many families cruising, it is snow bird time, prices are low and 20 somethings are not your common cruise age. Yes, there are certainly those who do cruise in their 20s but most cruisers are 30 plus. Was this your first cruise? NMnita

Too funny!!! We took our first and last Celebrity Cruise in October on the Zenith and my husband renamed it the Geriatric Tugboat!! Passengers were of varied ages but "stuffy" in their attitude. They seemed to like quiet and reading and activities on the pool deck consisted of daily trivia games. BOR-ING. We sailed with a couple we met a few years ago who happen to be 75 and 82 and VERY fun to be with, so again, it is not age but attitude and how you treat others that matters most on a cruise.

We are in our early 50's and really enjoyed RCCL but had the most fun on the NCL Spirit last summer and are doing the same cruise again.

Try NCL and I am sure you will agree.

I agree, age is so realtive. I have been cruising since I was 19 yrs. old. I enjoy people of all ages so it has never been a problem with me. My family consists of myself (60), my DH (54), and our DS (11). Yes, I am a 60 yr. old soccer mom! When we cruised last year we met and dined with people of all ages. Met an older couple on line for the NCL shuttle bus at the airport in Houston and not only had dinner with them one night, we also did a wine tasting with them. They loved the DS as he is very well spoken and well mannered (if I must say so myself:) ). Another day we had lunch with a couple in their early 20s on their first cruise that was lots of fun also. They were happy to see that it was fun to have a child along on a cruise and hoped to do the same with their future children. They learned that all young kids aren't brats and all older people aren't boring.:D We also dined with a couple of single moms traveling with kids about the same age as our DS. Our DS had made friends with their sons and the boys hung out together the whole cruise.

Keep an open mind and try to learn something from and enjoy people of all ages!

I hope you don't get slammed as well. One thing to remember and we all forget it from time to time: the more you cruise, the more the novelty wears off. This doesn't mean you won't enjoy cruising after 25 or 30 times, it means the awe goes away. It's the same as visiting Vegas for instance. After 3,4 or 5 times the excitement isn't the same. Another thing to remember is what one considered as plenty of activities others find dull. It's what we like to do that can keep us going. NCL ships are pretty port intensive, thus there are days without a lot to do: There are always card games, trivia games (several times each day) nightly shows, wine tasting, martini clinics, bingo (which I don't like) late night comedy in the lounges, some craft classes, the casino, plus a few other things. One thing NCL does not offer is pool games and activities. Most ships have discontinued these because of lack of interest. Again, you are not the only one that might find a lack of activities; sometimes DH has trouble keeping busy if there are 2 or more consecutive sea days. that is why he prefers NCL, because this is a rarety. My mother (84) and I were on the HAL Zuiderdam last summer to Alaska. Put it this way there was no night life. You can stroll around the ship at 11:00 p.m. and the ship is deserted. I guess they all went to bed at 10:00 p.m. My mother commented on this "where are all the people".

A lot of factors come into play:

- length of cruise: short cruises = younger folks longer cruises = older folks

- itinerary Alaska will have an older clientele than the Bahamas

- date: when the kids are out, there will be more young families

- cost: the money in America is mostly with older folks :-)

By and large, NCL has a younger average client age than HAL.

Hi my DH and I are just back from NCL Pearl 9 day cruise and we are in our 50's. We had a blast and the age of the passengers were from a few months old to a man in his 90's who was the hit of the cruise. He was crowned Mr Sexy legs and each and every nite got up to sing at Karaoke and everyone even the teenagers went to hear him sing. The reason we loved this cruise so much was because of the different ages and really age doesn't mean anything its how old you want to feel. This ship party until the wee hours of the morning and it catered to all age groups. There was a disco on board (with a bowling alley for the young crowd) several bars for those who just wanted to drink and relax and listen to either piano or strumming guitars and then there was the normal pool band which was not steel drums but still a caribbean band who played a wide range of music and then they was the main lounge that have live bands play from 6:30 to 8:30 swing/ballroom music for the 30 and up crowd and then another band who played at 11:00 till closing anytype of music and this had every age at as they did theme nites also. as you can see by my signature I have been on several ships and I think NCL does provide something for everyone. My least favourite was Holland America and just as a previous poster the ship died after dinner.

I also was on NCL a few years ago with my 18 year old daughter and we had a lot of fun together and again it was because the different ages of the passengers.

Lets face it, any vacation is what you make of it. If you keep to yourself it will be boring but if you get out there and mingle and keep an open mind and make the best of the situation you should enjoy it.

We have found...shorter cruises, younger crowd. Longer cruises...older crowd.

I don't care, I love them all:)

Our findings too.

Spring break adds young adults and Christmas Easter holidays adds children/families.

I was born in 1959, and I am 28 1/2:rolleyes:
