consmarci Posted July 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2004 I have read somewhere about a market on Wednesday. Where is it and what kinds of things do they sell? Do they have crafts? Food? Is it a market for negotiating, or do you pay what they ask? Thanks for any info....Marci
Rockwife Posted August 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2004 I haven't been there yet, but in researching our upcoming trip I located several sites describing the market in Marigot, held twice weekly (Wednesday and Saturday). http://www.sxm-info.com/SXM-activities/market_marigot.html http://www.expedia.com/daily/slideshow/sxm/2.asp?CCheck=1& http://www.wiol.com/st-martin-st-maarten/interest.html Enjoy, Michele
swseattle Posted August 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2004 How far is this market from the pier? How much does it cost to get there by taxi? Or can you take the water taxi there/can you walk there? Can you get good souveniers there as well? Thanks for all the help!
Rockwife Posted August 9, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2004 The market in Marigot is on the French side of the island, so you would need to find some transportation there from the pier. Of course, there is shopping in Philipsburg, which is within walking distance of the pier, but if you want to go to Marigot you can take a taxi or bus. It is supposed to be around $12 from Philipsburg to Marigot, but a bus is only $2. I don't know about a water taxi, but that sounds fun! Apparently the market has all kinds of things, but someone who's actually been there might answer you questions best! :)
