Universal Studios For One Day In LA?

wantingpj

Recommended Posts

We are thinking doing Universal Studios for our day in LA after the cruise.

My aunt has never been to LA and everyone has been telling her that she needs to do that.

Is it worth it? Or should we just do the Stars walk thing? Or something else?

First of all, welcome to LA!

Secondly, there is tons of info here on these boards already that may help you decide...

Read through all of the posts for quite a few pages, and and a "search" for any posts and info from me and BruinSteve...

There are SO many things to do and see in LA, that it's impossible to answer your question without more info about your Aunt and you...

What do you like to do, what are your interests?

Are there any specific movies or TV shows that your aunt loves?

(as you could visit some of those locations)

Also, what day of the week and what time of year will it be, as that can make a big difference...

Then finally, just for now, without knowing more, you can easily do Universal and a bit of Hollywood on the same day, as they are fairly close to each other....

There is even (for that possibility) a good tour company called

www.amazinglatours.com

that does a Universal and Hollywood tour...

Just random thoughts and ideas, but we need a few more specifics on what you want or would like in order to help you out better here...

Thanks for the reply Curt Jerome Wild.

We'll be in LA in early Feb. on a Friday.

I've been to LA a few times so I've seen some of the things. My aunt never has and I think she's wanting the Hollywood type of experience.

We will be coming from the Hunting Park area, so I have no idea how far away that is or how long it will take to get to Hollywood and/or U. Studios.

What road map would you suggest I get? Will Mapquest be good?

Also that star walk is LONG right? Where is the best place to start so we can see the 'good' stars?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Just in general, I'm trying to "read" between your info...

Is that "Huntington Park" in LA, between the 110 and 710 Freeways?

(Kind of near South Gate or Bell Gardens?)

If so, then it shoudl be about 30 minutes to Hollywood, given Friday traffic (could be a little more or less)...

That being said, I think for LA www.mapblast.com is always the best to use...

MapQuest always seems to have some quirks and mis-directions in the LA area (I've had lots of people lost and driving around by using those directions)...

Then, I would suggest going to your "home base" for the day at...

The Hollywood and Highland Complex...

http://www.hollywoodandhighland.com/

You can park there, it will be at the most $10 for the day... (and less if you buy anything in the shops or eat at the restaurants)

There are a bunch of restaurants there, as well as

The Kodak Theater where they have the Academy Awards (coming up soon), and The TV Guide Channel Studios, and the Janice Dickenson Modeling Agency...

So, lots right there...

Then, just walk west, and you'll already see a lot of the "good" stars, and get to the Chinese Theater within a block or two.

Be sure that she checks out all of the stars footprints in the cement.

This is the best place to start, and all close.

Then when you are done with that, you can cross the street from the theater, and walk the south side of the street to see more "good" stars...

If you and she are up for it, then go a few more blocks and cross back north, then come back down. You should cover most of the good stuff there...

If she's really interested in the real original "old school" Hollywood, then at least have a snack or a martini at Musso and Frank

6667 Hollywood Blvd.

This is where multiple stars hung (and hang) out...

Orson Welles, Al Pacino, Brad Pitt, too many to mention...

Many films were written here...

I hope this helps...

Let me know...
