LEESRE Posted January 30, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2007 Depends on what you like, beach or sightseeing? In Barbados we booked through the net a trip on Silver Moon, this was a catamaran and they only took about 14 people. They came to pick you up at the ship and took you back. The price was all inclusive around 80 dollars |I think. This was for a full day with food and drinks. We sailed around the coast and anchored off different beaches etc. Really worth the money. The snorkeling also was worth it. St.Lucia, we just head for the beach or walk around town. Plenty of taxis around the dock area and not too expensive. If you manage to get more than 2 people the fare is a little cheaper because you pay for the taxi for ocupants. We go to Reduit Beach which has all mod cons and some great bars. Antigua. Walk around twon and go to Hemmingways a really old bar just up on the right from the ships dock. Or go to Dickenons Beach again lovely water and palm trees to the edge of the sea. Antigua has supposidly 365 beachs one for every day of the year. Taxis again can be got from the dock where the ship berths, very cheap. Remember to tell them you will pay them on your return and state a time for them to come and pick you up, they always appear, or have done for us. They need the money. St. Maarten. Again if you like shopping them head for town, they have a beach right by the shopping area. You will need to take the water taxi into town or again head for the taxi rank outside the terminal and there is a large map of Antigua and the prices of each trip is posted. They are very freindly and helpfull and will suggest things for you to do, the price is on the wall. We headed this time to Little Bay and here was a fantastic reeef for snorkeling. The hotel on the beach welcomes cruise ship passengers and you can have a beer or something to eat, plus loos!! Again a very cheap day out. Dominica. Not done much here as this is one place we do not like. Some do the Emerald falls and the rain forests. We just get off ship and do some shopping for about an hour then head back to the ship and have a good time with no one onboard. Seems like you have the ship to yourself. Hope you have a fantastic cruise and I am sue you will. Is this the first cruise and if not have you been on Arcadia before?
Glenndale Posted January 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2007 Hi, Have to recommend a Whale / Dolphin watching trip we took with a local firm, Hackshaws. Saw loads of Dolphins, stop for a swim and lunch included. Ice cold beer and rum punch on board - no extra charge. $50 each - had a great time. http://www.hackshaws.com/
antigua Posted January 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2007 Please can anyone advise on good DIY trips when we're in Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, St Maarten, Dominica? We're on Caribbean Classic 9-23 Feb ArcadiaThank you this might help you, in Antigua you can hire a car or mini bus to do a tour of the island, you could go to places like Shirley Heights, which is the highest point of the island, this overlooks Nelsons Dockyard which is also worth a visit, you can cover these beauty spots in a couple of hours and still have time to have a leisurely afternoon shopping in st Johns , this is where the cruise ship docks, its great you just walk straight off the ship and you're in st Johns, its got great atmosphere to me its the best of all the islands, you can just sit with a cocktail and be entertained by the reggae music and dancers, we've cruised there twice and also holidayed for a fortnight , the latest cruise was on the Arcadia Simply Caribean last november, most of the other islands we did organised trips, St Maarten is fantastic just for the jewellry shops there must be close on a hundred ,my poor hubbies bank balance took a battering lol. Hope you have a great holiday.
