Cost of Soda Card vs. buying individually

Just wondering, I have a friend who is cruising with us next week on the Conquest who doesn't drink. He drinks maybe one soda per day. Would it be more cost effective to get the soda card or just buy individually? Also, how are the non-alcoholic smoothies? We're checking a case of water, btw. Thanks in advance.

You do know you can bring on soda also, if you only need 6-7. I would just carry it on. I think the cans on the ship are like $1.25 each.

I think the cans are $1.75 +15% tip, the glasses of soda are $1.25 + 15% tip. The soda card is $5.50 per day + 15% tip. Sounds like your friend won't drink enough to make the card worthwhile.

Thanks so much. We will bring a few with us and he said he was fine drinking the smoothies, water, and juices. He doesn't drink, never has, but I'm sure the other 7 of us will be buying enough drinks on board. Thanks again.

Either bring them or buy them individually on the ship, a 7 day card is about $40 and that's a lot of soda. We took a 7 day and bought one card and between 3 of us still didn't drink enough soda to add up to $40. The juices are really good we ended up drinking that most of the time.

So I can buy one card for the two of us? I thought you had to buy 1 card per person. How does this work?

This is the official policy

What is the Fountain Fun Card?

spacer.gif We will offer to all guests the option to purchase a "Fountain Fun Card" which will allow them unlimited soft drinks for the duration of the cruise at a one time purchase price (including gratuities). The "Fountain Fun Card" can be purchased at the casino, lobby and pool bar onboard the ship. In all locations where beverage service is offered, guests may receive a glass of the soft drink of their choice - one glass will be served at a time and only to the guest whose name appears on the card. The card cannot be used through room service.

NOTE: A 15% gratuity will automatically be added on at the time of purchase of the Fountain Fun Card.

Didn't have Diet Mt. Dew...that is what my brother brought on board with him. I believe it was all Coke products.

Out of our group of 10 people, only one got a soda card, and I don't think he got his money's worth out of it even after we ran out of "mixers" for our smuggled liquor. We did conclude though that everyone in our group needs to bring a 6 pack of 24oz bottles the next time we go (which we're shooting for next January as it is really cold in Iowa this time of year)

To take what my sis said above a bit further, the Coke products they have on board are pretty limited. You can expect to have available Coke, Diet Coke, Cherry Coke, and Sprite. Beyond that you can get ginger ale and other Schwepps products, but don't expect any caffeine free Coke/Diet Coke, etc.

Pepsi products (including Dew and Diet Dew)... forget it. You won't find it on board. In fact, don't expect to get Dew when you get to the ports of call either. Sure, you can find some brine that is called Mt. Dew in places like Cozumel, etc., but it has NO CAFFEINE in it outside the US, so it tastes like poo and doesn't give you the expected "kick". If you need a Diet Dew fix, bring it with you.

are you allowed to bring your own drinks on or do i need to pack them in my suitcase? What I'm saying is, can I take a whole 12 pack of dt mt dew on or do i need to take them out and pack them in the suitcase? And then can you get a glass of ice to pour them over? Will room service bring you a glass of ice?

The rules say you can bring a "limited" amount of pop on board, but a twelve pack is just fine, they will definitely let you on no problem. I brought my Pepsi on and they didn't even bat an eye. If your room has a mini fridge, you can take some of the stuff out (make it clear to your steward that you didn't buy them!) and put a couple cans in there. I know your steward will give you a bucket of ice if you want, but am not sure about the room service thing. I'm sure it'd be no problem, though.

Hope this helps,

Pat

If you drink a lot of soda, then yes it is well worth it. For me and my family, we definately got our moneys worth. We also purchased the travel cups and pretty much kept them filled at all times. If we paid by the glass, we would have spent soooo much more on soda's than the cost of the cards. You can get soda's at all of the bars at any time, at the shows, dinner etc. My family really doesn't drink alcohol, so soda's is the drink of choice.

We bring along two (2) 12 packs of soda( Diet pepsi) on every cruise. Along with a 12 pack of water We also bring along a folding ice chest with wheels. Just leave out the ice and it's no problem. It is just another peice of luggage. All but once the room attendant had filled the chest with ice and had place the ice chest in our room when our luggage arrived. Just ask your attendant and they will keep it filled with ice everyday. Also at the end of the cruise the Chest can be used for any extra items you picked up while on the cruise. That extra space sometimes is needed:D

The water we use on our tours.

We even bring a a can of soda each for at sea lunches and sometimes mainly on the last sea dinner a can just to finish off what we brought along. We also order a drink also. Anything left over we leave in the cabin.

Do the math 24 cans of  coke:eek: is 1.75 per can that is $42.00 and 24 cans of soda you can usualy buy at a store is $ 5.00 for two 12 packs. Even with a $10.00 tip to your attendant that is $27.00 saved to use at the bar.

I am guessing that you need to have the card or pay for soda at meals? Also, what about juice at breakfast, is it free, included on the soda card or pay for it at all times, I am talking OJ or apple juice in the AM?

Now this may sound like a weird question, but can you take your soda with you to dinner or lunch? Or must they be consumed outside of the dining areas? Thanks.

I've taken mine, but in a glass that I filled with my Diet Pepsi before entering the dining room! I have heard of some who walk right into the dining room with their can of Diet Pepsi in hand! I haven't the nerve to do that yet!

Maybe next cruise!

Juice like OJ or apple juice is all included in your cruise fare. You don't need to pay extra for it.

Yes, if you don't have a card, you'd pay for sodas at meals. They have free OJ and a great guava juice and others in the morning on the Lido deck (and I assume in the dining room, never been there for breakfast). And in the afternoons some of the Lido drink machines remove the OJ and switch to apple, etc. You can also get OJ from room service anytime. But with a soda card you can get 'bar juices', i.e. cranberry.
