How much do you usually tip the porters for helping with luggage?

$1/bag is customary. To me, it depends on how many bags you have, how heavy they are and how far they have to lug them.

We usually have about 6 bags(family of 4) I just tip them $10

In New Orleans, the porter came out to the parking lot and lugged our bags from our car so he got $2 a bag, in Miami, the porter had to move our bags about 5 feet so he got $1 a bag.

Just like others have said....it all depends on how many and how far.

No more than a buck a bag and then ONLY if you want to. It is a tip not a mandatory service charge. Remember, these porters are union members and are paid well. They are NOT tipped employees and do not report their tips as income.

I don't know if it helps or not but it makes me feel better!!!! :rolleyes: I usually have three bags and I give them $7-$10 getting on the ship and $5 when getting off the ship.

On our last trip out of Port Everglades, the bus driver handled our bags at the hotel and at the port, he pulled up next to the baggage cart and just off loaded them directly to the cart. For that we gave him $5.00 as we had only two bags. When we left to go home, this was the same, bus driver did it all, again same tip $5.00 for the two bags.

Thanks for the replies we will have 2 lg suitcases and 1 small one. so Im thinking between 6 and 10 dollars I thinks that sounds fair....

coming into the cruise...$5 for 2 suitcases and a garment bag

coming out, grabbing the porter with the luggage cart, $10 to take 3 suitcases (I pack a bag in a bag), the garment bag and the 2 carryons.

At port canaveral when we sailed in November we didn't tip. I don't know if it was rude, but there was a spot where we just pulled the car up to the carts and we helped them grab our bags. I grabbed one, my fiance grabbed one and the porter grabbed two and we all just tossed them on the cart. that was my experience

Otherwise $1.00 a bag seems to be about right.
