ArtM Posted February 3, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2007 Everyone who is unhappy about the Alaska tax, and how people are being asked to pay it even though it is in addition to the cruise cost they originally agreed to are about to be joined by those flying to or from the UK (London) after a cruise. The British government has just approved a 20 pound increase in the international departure tax, retroactive to December 6, 2006. According to the fine print, I fully expect Celebrity to apply that tax to those of us who bought cruise air with a flight to or from London from them, even though we have made the final payment. Apart from British Airways, all the airlines are going to be collecting the tax from passengers before they are allowed to board. The only place the December 6, 2006 date comes into play is that the airlines started collecting the tax on December 6 rather than waiting until it was officially approved. Hence, only those who paid for a ticket before that date will have to come up with the extra 20 pounds. Art

lucky white heather Posted February 3, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2007 BA have decided not to collect the back money..only airline as far as we know that is not taking advantage of the circumstances. It would have cost us another £120 ( $200 plus) for the flights involved on our upcoming cruise if we had been assigned to any other carrier by the cruise line...lucky break for us this time but it does mean a hike in prices for future bookings .
