does anyone know of any nice, clean, safe beaches that can be reached without booking a tour? my husband and I will be cruising on the Legend 5/27 with our kids ages 7,9,10 and are really interested in just soaking up the sun and beach while we're at port. Please help!!!

If you don't want to take the ships excursion, you will have to take the Tender to the pier, there will be booths set up, they will water taxi you out to one of the Cayes for the day.

The advantage of the ships excursion at this port is the tour will pick you up directly from the ship and take you directly to the caye.

This is a port that begs for a tour. There is not that much to do on your own. We booked a trip to Bannister Island at the tender dock. Ran $45 with a boat snorkel trip. You can also take a water taxi to Cay Caulker and spend a day on the beach at your leisure. Google baby, google.

Then try www.gocaycaulker.com

There are no beaches within a reasonable distance on the mainland. You have to to out to one of the Cayes (like a little island) to get to a beach. The only way to get to a caye is either by booking an excursion or by going to the port and arranging for a water taxi. As a previous poster said, the advantage to booking an excursion with the ship is that often the excursion boats will pick you up directly at the ship and transport you to the caye. Otherwise you have to tender in to the port and pick up a water taxi and the vice versa to come back.

There is one beach on the mainland, about 5 miles from pier. Do a search for Cucumber Beach. Do not know what it would cost to get there and back. No snorkeling but looks nice. We stopped there for a few minutes on our way to horseback riding last week.
