darlak8 Posted February 6, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2007 I'm looking at this private charter in Kona on Friday 3/2/07. It is $600 for 6hrs, breakfast, drinks & lunch included for 6 passengers = $100pp. I'm looking for 4 others to join us. These private charters are so much nicer than the big operations that squeeze you in and are on a set schedule. If we happen to particularly like a certain spot we can stay as long as we like, or if we get bored by lack of fish we can move on. I plan to visit the Captain Cook Monument (only marine sanctuary on Hawaii), the rest of the day is up to us to plan or just follow the Captain' suggestion. Not sure if it is ok to post the website but the name is Kona Sea Sports. Darla
jimw Posted February 6, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2007 If this doesn't work out, there is the free beach that many have called the best snorkeling beach in Hawaii. It's about 4 miles south of Kailua Kona and next to the Aston Keahou Beach Resort. It's very good, but can be crowded at or near the water entry. You will see turtles and more turtles, plus a great many species of tropicals. Be sure to go thru the walking gate to the hotel and check out the "basking" turtles on the rocks out from the open air lounge. If I could remember how to spell the beach name...If anyone is interested, I will look it up.
