World Cruise

Could anybody inform me of the approximate percentages of age groups on a world cruise. Is it mainly the over 55's/ retired?

Thank you.

Hi there - Now! I can't comment personally here! - However! from what I have been told by friends and relatives who have been on the world cruises or part/s of the world cruise - they say the average age is over 60+. My sister has just returned from the first part of the Oriana world cruise (SH - San Fran) and said that the ship (and these were her words!!) was like a floating old peoples home and that she and her husband (both early 50's) were among the youngest onboard. Although they really enjoyed their cruise (and have cruised loads before) they felt that they wouldn't want to repeat another part of the world cruise again.

- A world cruise (either all the way/half the way or even part of the way!) has always been something we fancy doing, but have to say I'm not too sure given the general "older" age of the average passenger. That's no offence to them, of course, but maybe the shows/events etc would be geared to the average age etc.

Hope that helps. :)

PS - I suppose the only way to really know is to give one a try !

Hi,

Thanks for your very useful information.

It was as I expected really because thinking about it logically it is only the retired that has 3 months at a time to spare.

We ourselves are in our mid fifties so I guess we will have to wait a few more years yet.

Being as I am terrified of flying, sailing from Southampton is my only chance of seeing all the wonderful places a world cruise entails.

We usually choose Royal Caribbean and will be cruising with them in May. Now if only RC did world cruises from Southampton that would be perfect as the age range on their ships is a much lower average.

Thanks once again.

I went on the Aurora 2006 world cruise. I celebrated my 40th onboard. There were many people my age and younger (one girl celebrated her 21st) and people of all ages joined and left the ship as we went around. Between Australia and the Far East the age group dropped considerably. The average age I would put at around 55. It was the best cruise experience of my life (I have been on more than 40), and one i hope to repeat.

Aussie cruise market traditionally opposite of UK market. Young people went on cruises to have a good time and let their hair down.Biggest problem used to be getting the boys to change out of their vests, shorts and flip flops into long trousers and a shirt to go into the dining room after sitting around drinking beer with their mates all day.

Maybe different nowadays, would be interested to hear how you get on as intend to do similar cruise in future.australia great - barrier reef etc ,magical.Far East just so different and such a lot to take in- it assails your senses.

Re onboard spend - depends how you like to live - consider drinks, wine, beauty salon, ships photographs, email account, casino chips, shore excursions and tips ( often paid out at end of cruise sectors rather than end of cruise). P+O give tipping guidance, drinks are not dissimilar prices to high street, same with beauty, photos are expensive but worth it for a good one.

Shore excursions can be expensive but would not recommend going off on your own in the Far and Middle East unless you really know what you are doing- play safe!( you don't need the hassle)

Need some money for spends ashore - you can always buy a new suitcase in the far east and fill it up - no luggage limits as disembarking in Soton!

Hope you have a nice time.
