Just got back from the 2/3/07 sailing of the Elation! Will post a full report later but, as usual, the cruise was wonderful. Had to skip Half Moon Cay:( because of the weather and one night it was Rock and Roll (and not in the bars!) but we still had a FANTASTIC time.

Can't wait to hear about it! We will be sailing on the 17th!!!! So the weather wasn't so great? How stormy was it? What are the temps like?

Temps were great! 80's most of the time. The day we had to skip Half Moon Cay is was VERY windy - 45 knots the captain said and the swells were 10 foot and greater - much to dangerous to tender into the island. They gave us all $25 per person OBC (Which we promptly 'donated' at the casino. Even with the wind the temp was fine - probably in the 70's. We still sat out on deck. It was cloudy - almost like a fog. Later in the afternoon the sun started coming out and it was pretty clear, but still windy when we got to Nassau. We headed straight to Nassau after the captain anounced that Half Moon Cay was a no-go. We arrived around 6 - so we had all evening plus the next day until 2:30 to explore Nassau.

Working on my trip report - hope to get it posted here

Truecruiser, looks like we'll be on the same trip! Keep your fingers crossed for good weather! You said you're repeating this itinerary - you've sailed this same trip, same boat, before? Any advice, suggestions, etc.?

same itinerary, different ship (fantasy), july 2006. this itinerary is awesome! HMC is stunning. grand turk -- beautiful, though i must confess we never made it past Margaritaville. didn't have to -- we've paid for excursions to places just like this in other ports. ccl will kill me for saying this -- but no (absolutely no) shore excursions are needed at any port of call on this itinerary. because of this simple fact alone, it is the most cost effective itinerary i have ever, ever cruised.

do you have your margaritaville link?

Uh oh, I know what Margaritaville is, but what's a Margaritaville link??

It's so great to hear that you love this trip! We haven't planned any shore excursions, and the only thing we'd likely consider doing would be snorkeling. Really, I'm a beach person, so when we dock, I like to lay in the sand and play in the ocean as much as I can :-)

grand turk -- ship docks right next to beach -- free clam shells on beach, but even better than the beach is buffet's complex right next door -- click on pics in link to see it.

nassau -- taxis right there to take you to cable beach where you get complimentary use of casino/hotel facilites, or you can go to paradise island by water taxi. if you have kids, pirate museum is 2 blocks away, and pretty cool. senor frog's right next door practically, and loads of fun. straw mkt and other shopping right next to pier.

HMC owned by carnival corp or one of carnival corp's other cruise line's companies (some said technically may be HAL, another carnival company). anyway, carnival private island, so your S&S can be used over there. crew brings over lunch and cooks it. clamshells can be rented on beach (think they were $15 per day when we went). cabanas get rented like an excursion. in the water playground, snorkeling right off the beach by the black rock area to the left. this poc is a "not miss," so i really hope we don't miss it.

I keep hearing about this Senor Frog's place.... is it the same idea as Margaritville? What's so fun about it?

I have no kids, no husband, I'm just going with a friend for some fun, sun, and much needed r&r. From all I've heard, this trip will not disappoint!

no. margaritaville is like a mini-resort w/o the rooms (though they were constructing cabanas). senor frogs is just a bar. it's a lively place to end the day in that port b/c it is right next to the pier. you can get food, they have a gift shop, and there's a little conga line thing that goes on w/ the staff free-pouring free shots of alcohol down your throat (if you want) as you pass through the conga line.

Also, can you confirm that there are not refrigerators in the rooms on Elation? I think I remember reading that in one of the threads, but I thought all the ships had mini-friges now (I have medicine I need to keep refrigerated....). And what about other amenities? Hair dryer? Soap and shampoo in the shower? Any other little tidbits you can share about the ship or the trip???

I just got back from 2/3 Elation sailing as well. What a blast! Also disappointed about HMC, however, the captain got on the intercom at 8 am and explained the safety issue. I was impressed with his explanation and also enjoyed staying overnight in Nassau instead, as we got to tour the dig at night (no charge) and hung out on the beautiful beach on Paradise Island the next day.

Margaritaville was awesome! Swim up bar, band playing...we hung out in the pool for 3 hours! Drinks were expensive, but who cares....you're on vacation! It was so good, one guy had to be wheeled back on the ship in a wheel chair! He hit his head on the bottom of the pool after he obviously overindulged in the tequila. It was funny because we saw him everywhere on the ship for the rest of the week with a great big goose egg on his head. He must have looked great in the family portraits!

Senor Frogs was good. We went at night, got charged $7 each for a cover and $12 each for weak drinks. Well, at least we got to keep the plastic yards they served the drinks in! We ordered nachos and they were delicious.

We had a cat 12, balcony. It was cool out there at night with the wind blowing. Had to wear a sweatshirt. But the rest of the ship not exposed to the open air was quite comfortable. No jackets required.......

Now I am home in New Hampshire, freezing my butt off, wishing I was "wasting away in margaritaville".........
