Aussie Gal Posted February 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2007 We went to Rio, Montevideo, Buenos Aries and Iguacu on your list and we only carried American dollars and our credit cards with us. We did not change any of those dollars into the local currency at any of those cities. We also went to Chile, Peru and Ecuador and we were fine with the above. jamcat Posted February 14, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Jennie, Thank you for the info. We are going to BA in March and we will end in Rio. We are a little concern about crime in Rio, so we were trying to plan for the trip. Thanks , Jamcat
BettyNL Posted February 14, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Last month we took $100 in Chile & Argentine currency, which came in handy at several places. But for the most part, used $$$.......
crazy4cruisn Posted February 15, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2007 We just got back from our Santiago to Rio by way of Antarctica cruise. It was wonderful! I booked private guides for all ports and only changed money in Santiago for our one day early arrival. All guides accepted US cash. We used ATM's only in Santiago. Other places we used credit cards. I too had been very apprehensive about Rio, but had no problems. It is one of the prettiest cities I have seen! I wish we had had a longer time there. We departed from Rio so had one night on the ship, the next evening was our departure so our guide and driver kept the luggage all day. Be sure to take US cash for the Santiago airport if you are arriving there.
