Mexican Riviera Question

Metrolink only goes as far south as Oceanside. The Coaster is Amtrak and it goes all the way to San Diego, within walking distance of the ship. One can take luggage on the Coaster.

Thank you LaJolla! I knew I wasn't going crazy! :o

BTW, we just moved to ATL from San Diego a few years back. We lived in UTC right off Regent. I sure do miss it...hopefully we'll be back soon!

What is the weather like in late feb and early march when doing mexican riveria? Also, what time of year is best for this itinerary?

Personally, I think the best time to do a Mexican Riviera Cruise is in late spring, when the waters in and around Cabo warm up a little. But anytime around Easter is simply crazy in Mexico - it's one of the largest holidays and many. many families head to the coast to celebrate not to mention spring breakers. We've been to PV during spring break and it's an absolute zoo - being on a cruise won't be so bad, but then you'll be paying a premium to cruise Spring Break (most of March).

We're cruising next week and have done Mexican Riviera cruises in Feb several times. We do so for a number of reasons, but mainly price and great weather conditions. The water temps especially in Cabo are still a little cool - around 70 degrees - but the weather is perfect - in the low 80's, with little humidity and almost no rain at all ports of call. Departing out of L.A. in Feb can be "iffy" as you never know if it will be nice or a little rainy. By the second day of the cruise, you'll have plenty of sunshine and warm temps even if your departure isn't perfect!

November through May is considered the best time to travel to the Pacific Coast of Mexico - by May, you can expect air temps to be in the 90's though.

Good luck.

The Coaster Train is operated by the North County Transit District, with service from San Diego to Oceanside. It offers frequent weekday service, limited Saturday service and NO service on Sundays. The trains are green and blue and bear the "Coaster" logo.

The Pacific Surfliner is operated by Amtrak from San Diego to Los Angeles. It stops at points in between and the service continues beyond Los Angeles to San Luis Obisbo, and Paso Robles.

It offers frequent service on weekdays with service available on weekends. The trains bear the familiar "Amtrak" logo enhanced with the "Surfliner" label.

COASTER monthly pass holders also enjoy the Rail2Rail program, which allows these passengers to ride any Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train between Oceanside and San Diego at no additional cost.

The MetroLink is operated by the Southern California Regional Rail Authority. It offers service to the greater Los Angeles area and the southernmost point is Oceanside.

Referring to the original question, and with the helpful input from others, it appears the OPs best option for train service from Los Angeles to San Diego would be Amtrak since it provides seamless service seven days a week.
