will be in maui on 6/26/07 on a cruise on pricess and wonder how far from the pier to big beach it is. also if a car rental is near the pier where princess docks. anyone been to big beach and if so how was it?

Big Beach is probably better known as Makena Beach. From Lahaina to Wailea is approx 45 minutes and it's still a few miles south of that. Probably closer to an hour. From Kahului, it's 25 minutes to Wailea. These driving times are courtesy of Maui Revealed. If you're docking in Kahului, car rental offices are at the Kahului Airport, OGG. Shuttles to/from the pier are operated by major car rental agencies. If you're tendering over in Lahaina, the rental offices are just west of Kaanapali Beach at the West Maui airport, JHM. Shuttles are run by the rental agencies to/from Lahaina.

 

Wanted to add that a few years ago we did a pre cruise stay in Kihei and went to Makena Beach. We just looked it over and looks like a nice beach. We were there during the week and it certainly wasn't very crowded. My wife wouldn't let me walk over to Little Makena:(

 

Just checked Princess web site and it looks like you're on the Princess Regal, the ship goes to Lahaina, so you'll be tendering into the pier.
