Digital Photos & IPOD

I think you could probably do that without a problem. But these days you can always get a backup memory card for your camera at a good price. My 8mp camera with a 2gb card holds about 500 pics on the best resolution.

Yep... if you have an iPod Photo (3rd generation) or newer - especially a video iPod with a dock connector, Belkin and a few other 3rd party vendors make a great memory card adapter to load your mem card onto the iPod's HDD for storage.

If I'm not mistaken, all iPods with a dock can store your photos. The larger video-friendly models also do a decent job of letting you review your photos.

The only downside I've found is that if you dump all your photos to the iPod, by the end of the week you've "got all your eggs in one basket" and you're SOL if you lose or drop the iPod... I've always carried a BUNCH of mem cards with me on vacation, and I keep the photos on each one like rolls of undeveloped film to carry home. Each day all of my pics are backed up to the iPod as a SECOND location to store them. With any luck I get home with 2 copies of everything and just re-format the iPod once I've got all my pictures sorted and archived where they belong.

Apple has an iPod camera adapter:

If the link doesn't work - it is called "Apple iPod camera connector".

It works with more cameras than listed.

Most ipods do not come with docks now (they are optional) though the shuffle does and that can not hold pictures.

From what I've read on various camera boards the iPod with camera connector will work but the downside is that transfer speeds are slow and it's very battery intensive for both the iPod and camera.

Prices for memory cards are dropping so it's pretty inexpensive to carry extra ones.

I'm also a firm believer in having your photos in two locations, whether it be the memory card and either an iPod or PSD.

ALL iPods, except the shuffle come built with what Apple calls a "dock connector". All iPods also come with a "dock cable". The molded piece of plastic which holds the iPod upright on your desk ("dock") is really irrelevant to the OP's needs or this discussion.

Even Apple officially admitted that their camera connector drained both batteries pretty heavily. A representative at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) mentioned that a memory card adapter would be a better route, as the power drain was much less. I didn't discuss transfer speed.
