Beware Of The Quest

Recommended Posts

Thank you OP for the warning. Most trolls do not defend their posts. I've been to numerous Quest shows and by design it can easily get out of control. In Becky's defense, they have a large area to watch. Perhaps your topless lap dancer was not noticed initially. I enjoy the Quest as it is usually PG-13 at most. My "spoiled" children (ages 13 and 15) have attended for the last 3-4 years. It further reinforces their belief that adults are morons, and they get a good laugh also. They have been to a lot of places one would not bring children. They have worked at soup kitchens, visited jails, psych floors, cancer floors, and a cadaver lab. They've always been given a choice, but wanted to stay and see what Mom does. DS is a leader in his school's gay/straight alliance club. They attend conferences that would make most adults uncomfortable, but they have a deeper appreciation for diversity. The giant leep by AMYBEAR that children viewing Quest would be the next Brittany was laughable. Do you really think the Anna and Brittany's grew up cruising with their families? I worry about the kids left home while Mom and Dad take a vacation. Sorry the OP had the experience he/she did, but no one has to leave or sit by. Perhaps handing the women her top and asking her to take it to her room would have helped.(probably would have been booed by some I'm sure). Life happens - all you can control is your response.

Yes, definitely laughable to conclude that a child that watches a Quest episode will turn out like Britney.

Also laughable to suggest that kids left at home while Mom and Dad take a vacation need to be worried about. Just as one cannot make the leap that a naughty cruise game could cause harm to a child with no further supporting data, one shouldn't post a dig at parents who might leave their children home for a week while they vacation. Could be a parent who never leaves their children for a minute is also abusive, emotionally neglectful or creepily obsessed, just as one who vacations once a year to bond with their spouse could be loving, giving, plugged in, and completely wonderful.

BTW, I do cruise with my kids, but I draw NO conclusions about any parent who does or does not.

To the poster who asked about adults only cruises, there really are very few. You'd have to cruise a line which does not cater to families (just google cruise lines and you can find the websites) and/or take the longer cruises. The 10 day and more cruises have far fewer children.

I thought the Quest on my recent Brilliance Cruise was rather lame. Now I'm really looking forward to the Quest on my Mariner Cruise.

Well there you go that speaks volumes about you ,all we are saying is that maybe this porno doesnt belong at the quest if you want that behavior there are enough strip clubs on land!! it is not right to advertise a fun game rated pg13 and then encourage nudeity I have been on 10 different rcl ships and always had fun in fact rcl has the best entertainment partly because of the quest. I want it to stay that way !!!

My apologies for any misunderstanding. My intention was not to dig any parent on a well deserved vacation. I have friends (with great kids) who vacation without. As a working Mom, I'm a big believer in quality not quantity of time. My point was, I choose to bring my children to an adult recommended venue, I'm there and able to discuss the event with them. I do not have that option when not with them. I appreciate no one can be there 24/7, you have to have alittle faith in what you have taught them. They have also attended the Love and Marriage show and can appreciate that sneaking "it" is nothing new. The answers from the oldest couple are as funny and interesting as the newlyweds! Again sorry for any misunderstanding.

Mu husband and I were on that now infamous cruise, and we did attend that Quest. It started out as the audience being divided into about 6 teams. Each team had a leader and the teams had to pass off items that Becky asked for. It did get a little risque later on in the show, however it got down right nasty by the end. Indeed one girl got completely topless and did a lap dance on the guy sitting in the chair. I don't think Becky or anyone else expected this, because she did state that she hoped Captain Johhny was not watching or she would be out of her job. I was not terribly offended and my husband actually enjoyed it.(Imagine that)

Micheal in ME........I'm sorry you were offended.....nobody should have to be in a situation thats makes them uncomfortable.

This is what you could have done...left and made a complaint either in person or on your comment card or both.

As another poster said that game has been around along time, very popular but they have to change it up because repeaters know what to do or bring.

Also cruisers are changing....getting younger, they drink more and they are more risque!!!

We have always enjoyed ours and never felt they went too far

As for RCI enforcing a rule.....don't hold your breath...they are very cautious about heavyhandedness with any rules likes chair hogs at pool or babies in diapers in the adult pool or unruly teens running about.

Connie and Steve....relax and enjoy your cruise.......only on a rare occasion have I seen unruly toddlers or loud babies. More often the unruly teens who have nothing to do but run around unsupervised or the rowdy drunks.

RCI has become a more family oriented cruiseline with the Voyager Class of ships.

If you feel when you get back there were too many kids than stay away from Voyager and Freedom class, go on 10 days or longer (older crowd, less kids) or try Celebrity of Holland America.

Also don't go in summer, holiday or spring break times....

If you were extremely offended, you should have gotten up and left. That is what I would have done if I were somewhere where I felt uncomfortable. We actually enjoy the quest and I know I wouldn't have been offended by a topless girl ;) . But seriously, if you made a point about seeing that it should not be for children and you are offended by things that go on at a show like this, you should have known that you might have been offended and not attended in the first place.

When I was on Majesty last weekend I thought the asst. cruise director in charge of quest was very aware of what was going on and took control without hesitation.

The men were asked what they like to do in their spare time - just before they each took their turn at "modeling". I can't remember exactly what the one guy said - but I think It was "I like to swallow" (might have been "suck") but before he could fit in another word, which I don't think he intended to do anyway, she immediately grabbed the microphone back so he could go no further.

The line of the night though went to the guy who told what he likes to do...."This is close". Sweet and simple and had everyone laughing to the point of tears. People can be funny, make implications without being gross and have a good time. It wouldn't have mattered if there were kids there too young to get it. And if they were old enough to get it, nothing happened that wasn't just good silly fun.

I'd have walked out if there was a topless lap dance. I'd have taken a picture first though and filed a complaint - Becky or no Becky. If this is indeed true - she made a big mistake since they really aren't restricting anyone by age. Yes, they could card people at the door - their sea pass makes it obvious if they are adults or not.

The link to my cruise compass only says it's suggested for adults - no mention of adults being 18 or 21. But it sure doesn't say PG13. If they are going to allow border line porno, they need to card the audience.

I still don't know that I believe it was as bad as the OP states. And it seems there would have been enough people with photographic evidence if it happened. Maybe even some CC people. People were lined up with cameras, as I was, taking photos on Majesty.

Finally, a story that makes a little sense. Yes, these do get out of control, but not because of the CD. People are people and nudity happens in these events....have for as long as I can tell from these boards. Thanks ganana for a more reasonable explanation.

OK, I have a slightly different take on this. When RCCL indicates that an event is "adult-only" (like the quest or adult comedy) I wish they would enforce it. It makes me VERY uncomfortable, and definitely diminishes my enjoyment of entertainment, if the material is highly inappropriate for children, and yet children are being exposed to it.

I will behave differently if we have a party, or are at a party, where children are present, than if there are no "impressionable young minds" around. Hypocritical? Absolutely, and I don't apologize for it. Adults can laugh at joke that they would not tell in the presence of children.

The comedians are clearly uncomfortable when their show has been scheduled at midnight, clearly labeled as for adults, and then they have 8 year olds in the front row.

RCCL keeps children OUT of the casino. Totally. Frankly, the stuff that goes on at the quest, or the adult comedy show is far less appropriate for kids. I'm not sure about the rationale.

And I do believe the OP. I have seen the quest when some participants were over the line. Lots and lots of booze does that to folks. If the line is going to allow it, (and they have a right to) they should bill the event as R or X rated, rather than PG-13.

Nor should they have, as unless it was specifically written as so in the Cruise Compass or stated prior to the show, the rule does not exist.

"recommended" does not mean it's a rule. just a few years ago every compass would say "The Quest, Rated PG-13"

Sort of like the " suggested " dress code! :) Sorry I couldn't resist!

When we were on the Mariner last May, we went to the Quest after late dinner seating. There was absolutely no room and we had to leave. It really makes me mad to think there were children/young adults under 18 taking up seats meant for us!!

I have no idea why the OP just did not simply walk out. The voyager and freedom class ships are so large there are many other places to go. We all know the Quest is geared toward adults not children as are the late night comedy acts and I personally would not bring a child to either show but if a parent does bring a child to such an event it's their choice so they can't be offended if they feel it's inappropriate for children. Why doesn't RCCL actually tell someone their kid can't go to Quest? Probably because the parent would throw a fit over being told their child could not attend and who is RCCL to tell them how to parent their child?! I wasn't there so can't really comment as to what happened on the OP's cruise but I have read on this board numerous times that people are very fond of Becky and although I've never sailed with her, I find it hard to believe she'd condone this extreme behavior if it really did happen that way and risk her job. If it really did happen like the OP says it did, than I would think it was a matter of some passengers simply getting a little out of control. It happens, if you are offended, get up and walk out! It is true RCCL targets a younger, more casual crowd or they wouldn't have all the rock walls, ice skating, in line skating, Johnny Rockets, Water slides and kiddie water areas and a vast array of kid programs, mini golf, flow riders, commercials sung by Iggy Pop, brochures with pictures of the dining room with guys in T-shirts, etc. If someone is expecting to find few children or no inappropriate behavior EVER on RCCL, they need to rethink cruising the line. With over 3400 plus passengers on the Voyager and Freedom class ships, someone out of thousands of passengers is bound to be offended by someone else at least once on every cruise. It's hard to please everyone at all times on these megaships. IMHO:o

I've seen it a total of 3 times..... 2 were a lot of fun and quite innocent.... My October cruise on the Mariner was OVER THE TOP. I am not a prude by any means, but was disgusted by one group playing the game. One man managed to go up wearing a womans bra and G-string. Well, lets just say, GEORGE and the BOYS were hanging in their glory for all of us to see. This fellow managed to strut his stuff, literally running all over the place. We had a male cruise director (his name escapes me) who kept saying I AM SO FIRED, I AM SO FIRED. They warned this gentleman MULTIPLE times to cover himself up with his number but he kept throwing his number on the floor. I don't remember seeing any kids there, but wouldn't have even wanted my 18 year old daughter there to see that. No One encouraged this gentleman to get up there and do this. Flame away if you must. I just wished I'd gotten pictures, except If I were to post them here, I would have been kicked off of cruise critic.

Apparently they were encouraging people to show off body piercings and ears did not count. I heard that one woman gave quite a show.

They asked the EXACT same question on Splendour.... First things I thought of were... Tongue, nose, labret, and belly button. What were you thinking??

Oh boyyyy

Extra butter please, this is entertaining!

I'm thinking I may just have to book this Enchantement cruise and have my son go around the ship calling for Connie and/or Steve the entire time ;-)

OMG LMAO!!

Again,

We have been to many Quest shows before, but for some reason the formats have changed or it was only specific to this ship?

we always had fun at the Quest, i just want people to have a heads-up at what happened and the potential is there again.

It is billed as Adults only, then RCCL shares responsibility to enforce this also.

Just like the drinking age on the ships that they need to enforce but rarely do and these kids end-up in trouble. I have seen so many "lit" teenagers running around in the Promenade of the Voyager class ships, every cruise.

We like RCCL, will continue to cruise, but the need to reel in a bit!!

You know.. I've been on many RCCL ships and the Quest game is not the same on each and everyone. I tend to believe you on what you say. I've seen some gross disgusting behavior on some of the ships when this game is played by those that are drunk. The age varies too as I've heard them announce that it's "adult only over 18" before it starts. Sometimes it's more PG-13. I think it depends on the sailing and the ship.

For the selected few who thought you were a troll... they made themselves look silly. It's not worth even replying to such rubbish. I lost over a 1000 posts BTW when the board went down a few years ago. It really doesn't make a difference how many posts a person has. But it's funny how the ones with only a few cruises under their belt think they are cruise experts. lol.

The CRITIQUE by the OP I find to be informative and helpful. The story has been confirmed by others.

I was on the Mariner in Jan.. My wife went to the Quest( not my thing) and had no reports of R rated actions. I think it was a couple of people out of control.

I was on the 2/11 sailing and did not go to The Quest, however, I saw the Cruise in Review video and wished I had gone to it. It looked HYSTERICAL. Nothing that I saw looked pornographic. It looked like adults having fun at an adult show. No one forced you go to to the show, you chose to go by your own free will. Get over it people and learn to relax. Te compas specifically said this show was for adults. If you chose to bring your kids, then shame on you and go take some parenting 101.

Sorry about the delay in getting this back on the board. Unfortunately, it can be as difficult to moderate a thread as it is to post on CC these days. I realize that everyone is frustrated by the problems with boards, but you are not alone. We are all hoping for a timely resolution.

Now back to the original subject, which is Quest.

Karen

Any word on how long it will take to get the boards functioning again? I think there are many members that feel your pain but would like some type of communication on what is going on and how long it might take.

Thanks
