SakeDad Posted February 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2007 I am an avid chef and FoodTV watcher so the Culinary Center seems like it would be great for me! But while I have seen posts about other ships I haven't seen anything about the Noordams program. Can anyone tell me if it's as great as I hope:confused:
CruiseBumm Posted February 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2007 I do know that yoy need to get to front desk and sign up as soon as you board. the classes fill up quick. As for the actual class a lot depends on the chef. Some are better than others. You can check the guest chef scheduke on HALs web site. Go to http://www.hollandamerica.com/signatureofexcellence/culinaryartsschedule.do and see whos on the Noordam your week. Not all weeks are shown only those with special guest chefs. (The C.A.C. also has just demonstrations a couple of times per cruise.) The classes get mixed reviews here. Some people get a real hands-on, enjoyable experience and some get nothing much more than a close-up, small-group demonstration. For example, Schplinky recently said: Our class was held in the morning of the day that we arrived at tortola around lunchtime. While it was fun, calling it a class was a bit off. We were handed recipes and we cooked food on our own, with the chef wandering between groups. It could have been better organised (we had no measuring spoons and had to wait our "turn" with the knives even though each recipe had a number of shopped or sliced things.
