S&S card..........HELP!!!

There are 4 of us (parents and 2 teens) sailing in May on Miracle from New York City. Each teen is in college and is paying their own S&S account. After reviewing all the options, my daughter wants to put cash on hers instead of securing it with a credit card. My question is......what is the best way to do this? We have found MANY, MANY answers to this question. Some say it's dangerous to do ahead of time because they may lose your info and the money isn't on the account when you get there. Others say that you can do it on board but then some say you can't. Carnival's reps say all the ways. Can SOMEONE give us the correct answer? We've decided that multiple cruisers would probably know best! Thanks!!

I usually use cash. I think it is easier to just wait until you get there. You just have to go to the pursers desk to apply the cash to your card

The reason why you are getting varied responses, is because there is no "best" way, you are getting personal opinion.

"Funship dollars" may be purchased in advance and applied against the account before or on the cruise.

My opinion of the easist method would be to just bring travellers checks in sufficient amount and deposit it to the account after check in.

Personnly, I just secure it with a CC and pay it off with cash (hopefully from the casino) the last day of the cruise.

My sister-in-law prefers to do the same thing. She goes to the purser's desk and applies the cash to her card when she gets onboard. And they let her know when she's getting low on funds so she can either put more on or put it towards her credit card. But to me it's a lot easier to just use the credit card and put the cash on it when I get home!! Hope that helps.

I've done mine with cash on both of my previous cruises with Carnival. Actually, I hit a Bank of America ATM on my way to the pier so I didn't have to carry cash all the way from home! I did mine at the purser's desk after embarkation, but if you do that, be prepared to stand in line for a bit. If I remember correctly, they do have a minimum deposit amount: seems like it was $200 on my 5-day and $250 on my 7-day. They will cut you a check on the last day if you have any left over and certainly will let you know if you are getting low.

Thats how I did it too. I saved for the s&s card money and didnt want to use a credit card. We spent too many years paying them off. I never had a problem with it. In fact I over spent and they just left me a bill to pay the next morning.
