Liz Taylor - Puerta Vallarta

I've been to Puerto Vallarta several times and I've never been interested....BUT I'm taking my 90 year old mother-in-law on her first cruise and I know she'd love to see the house that Liz Taylor lived in while shooting Night of the Iguana. I know that there are tours that point out the location of the house. Anyone know of a tour that actually gets up close and personal - like a tour inside the house? Any other suggestions for things that would fascinate her? She LOVES movie star stuff.

Thanks!

Nearly all of what was, in 1963, the small quiet fishing town of Puerto Vallarta has been, and continues to be, transformed at a dizzying pace, into a modern city. Mismaloya is now easily reached by Highway 200 along the south shore. When "Night of the Iguana" was filmed, they hauled all the sets and film making equipment there by boat; including the crew and cast each day. Casa Kimberley at Calle Zaragoza 445, the house that Richard Burton bought for Eizabeth Taylor in the colonia (neighborhood) near PV Centro referred to as Gringo Gulch, was recently sold to new owners. Go to: http://www.casakimberley.com Also try: http://www.travelingtales.com/deefholts/kimberley/index.html and

John Huston, the film's director, had a wonderfully talented personal chef who eventually decamped in Puerto Vallarta and started his own restaurant. Archie's Wok at Francisca Rodrigues #130 (ph. 222-0411) just off of Olas Altas near Los Muertos pier in the Zona Romatica (PV Southside) serves up absolutely superb Asian fusion cuisine. You could easily find Casa Kimberley by cab (likely for around 80 Mex pesos). I hope this is helpful. Bien viaje! Wills, the tuxedo man

Find a cab that will bring you all the way to the house, since it is on a hill with a steep climb as far as I remember.

Wow Tuxedo Man! You have a wealth of knowledge - thanks so much!! I really appreciate the links. This is MIL's 90th BD present and she'll be thrilled.

Ine - really good suggestion given MIL's age and knee replacement.

Thanks to you both!

Tannise, Thank you for your kind comment. Da nada (espanol for "It was nothing..."). Archie's Wok opens for the day at 2 PM. Their hours are 2-11 PM Monday-Saturday. For a more casual lunch and at a lesser expense, try Dee's Coffee on Rudolfo Gomez, just off of Olas Altas, one block over from Archie's. Dee Rindt and her wonderful staff serve the best coffee in Puerto Vallarta. Each cup is freshly made. They serve freshly made sandwiches, salads, fruit smoothies, cool refreshments and to-die-for home made baking (ie. the cinnamon buns or seven-layered squares). This small oasis is one of PV's gems. It has air conditioning, three distinct seating areas and complementary internet access for their customers. Hope you and your mother in law have a special time together. If all goes as planned on her birthday adventure, she will indeed think to herself 'my son has married well..." Wills, the tuxedo man

OldCodger73, I do not know if that endeavor is still available. As you may be aware, through the efforts of numerous fund raising events and individuals, the lives of less fortunate Vallartans and people living in the outlying communities are made a lot brighter and more hopeful. The PV Bomberos (firemen), the children at the Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza (children's shelter), the Children of the Dump, the Street Boys. There is always much need and, in response, much heartening generosity. Perhaps one of the following links could lead to an answer for your question: http://www.allvallarta.com Click on the link for Message Board. This will bring up a page of 'forums'. Scroll down and click on the link for the 'Donation Station' forum. You must register to post. It is easy to do and there are no fees involved. Also http://www.vallartatribune.com/ or http://www.banderas news.com/ Both are English language weeklies for the local ex-patriot/resident/visitor communities. There are links for "contact us". I hope this is helpful. kind regards, Wills, the Tuxedo Man

I occasionally do a bit of creative writing for the AllVallarta message board. On the forums page, toward the bottom, there is a link for the "Friday's Post". There is a piece on page two of the archives from November 2005 entitled, "Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child". Enjoy.
