Hypnosis for weight loss!

Recommended Posts

Has anybody tried hypnosis for weight loss (or any other issues)?? I've been researching ways to loose weight and this keeps popping up.

According to the web sites, snacking is more emotional than physical and can be controlled with hypnosis. Have you ever got up to grab a snack even though you're not hungry? I think about this everytime I go to grab a snack now and will sometimes NOT grab the snack. See, it's helping me already!! :D

Seriously, has anybody tried this or heard about it?

I started doing this a couple of weeks ago, I bought a book by a well known weight loss hypnotherapist here in the UK called Paul McKenna (I think he's been on Ellen's show), the book is called 'I Can Make You Thin' and it comes with a cd at the back that you are meant to listen to every day.

I've been sick the last week with a chest infection but I can say that i've noticed a change in my eating habits, especially in relation to stopping when i'm full and not stuffed (which for me is a big point). I'm going to keep at it and might even go see a hypnotherapist privately. I definitely think that it can work because a lot of overeating/emotional eating (for me anyway) is all in the mind and its about changing your attitude and your habits, something which i've always found very hard to do in relation to food.

Let me know if you do it and how you get on! I'm hoping to lose 80lbs before my cruise in November through hypnotherapy and eating less so we'll see how it goes!

Good luck!

I have a co-worker who is a food-aholic like most of us. She is presently seeing a doctor that specializes in hypnosis to treat over-eating, smoking, pain, etc. Anyway, she's been doing for about a month and has lost one clothes size already. She told me that she no longer has any interest in junk food and only wants healthy food. Instead of grabbing the Girl Scout cookies, she grabs carrots. She also said that she was addicted to Wendy's hamburgers and would eat a double just about every day. She said that when she drives by a Wendy's now, she can't even see it! Amazing!!!

Another co-worker started smoking when she was 16 y/o and is in her late-30's now. She saw a hypnotist 3 years ago and hasn't smoked since. When she craves a cigarette, she drinks water.

I think it totally works, but you have to be willing to allow it to work.

That is so exciting! My BF just went to speak with a hpynosis about pain control last night. He's officially signed up for the 9 week treatment. I really hope it helps and I truly beleive it will.

It may sound crazy but I can't stand vegies or sea food. Both make me wanna barf! I may try hypnosis so I can enjoy those things. When I snack, I reach for junk. If I liked carrots, maybe I would grab one of those instead?? Ya never know! Maybe there is a hypnosis download that I can try?

I did this and lost 30 lbs!

I saw a private hypotherapy practitioner (not one of those group things at a hotel ballroom) for three weekly sessions and diligently listened each night to the tape she prepared for me. I think the key is having the program individualized for you and your own needs - a cookie-cutter approach just can't work because all people do not have the same issues.

Before we started, she had me keep a food diary for a week - not only what I ate, but why I ate it. This isolated that I tend to snack/munch when I'm bored or feeling unappreciated. In the tape, she keeps telling me what a great person I am, and that food is not a substitute for love, mental stimulation, or anything else. In one of our sessions, she had a fun image of me in a boxing ring taking on a 6-foot tall bar of chocolate. At our last session, we ceremonially buried a chocolate bar in her backyard.

She encouraged me to drink a lot of water and eat healthier, less processed foods that stay with you longer - brown rice instead of white, sweet potatoes instead of white, sprouted bread only, pasta only once a week (I tended to have it several times a week since it's so quick to make).

I lost the weight in about 6 months and then plateaued, in part probably due to my lapsing back into some of my old habits (hey, life without chocolate is not worth living!)

I got into some really bad eating habits on my last cruise (and gained 8 lbs!) and am not happy at work right now and find myself eating "bad" stuff the minute I get home. I guess I need to start listening to my tape again!

I haven't gone to a hypnotist but I have used Provida Life Sciences Smart Techniques cds for weight loss. I feel that it worked for me. And I've met several hypnotists who also do similar types of guided imagry techniques. I've already paid for my program and I can listen to my cds any time I need to.

I did this and lost 30 lbs!

Cindy, That is fantastic! Ignore the set backs and just keep trying. If you can loose 30 once, you can do it again.

I only need to loose about 15 lbs but I'm stuck at -4 lbs. My favorite evening dinner and deserts have been replaced with sugar free jello and water yet I can't seem to loose anymore. Even the treadmill isn't dusy anymore! Maybe I should quit my desk job and take up shopping and crusing. It's much more physical. :D

Hi,

Unfortunately it did not work for me. I went 4 or 5 times and felt really positive when I left the session, but unfortunately it did not continue.

I feel it is down to the hypnotherapist, there are good & bad in all professions. I felt he was good, but maybe did not specialise enough in weight loss. I felt he was stringing it out, saying I would need more & more sessions that would obviously cost me more money.

I think if you get the right therapist & I guess that is trial & error & through recommendation then I can definitely see it helping, I definitely felt something!

I had the Paul McKenna cd's, but they did not help me unfortunately. Maybe I am beyond help, lol.

Hi Lisa, Maybe you need a different type of hypnosis besides just the standard weight loss sessions?? Something like an energy type booster to burn those calories? When I get depressed, I don't really eat more, my body just slows down completely. When I feel good, I'm energized. Just a thought. ??? I hate to see people give up!

My BF missed his first hypnosis appt for pain. I had to take him for an emergency trip to the pain doctor instead. I'll keep you all posted on how the hypnosis works for pain management if I can get him there.
