Coffee on the Grandeur

We are set to sail on the "Grandeur of the Seas" in 2 weeks and had a question regarding coffee on the ship. I thought we would order a pot of coffee to be delivered in the morning to our cabin but where is the best place to get coffee during the day. I would think it would be available at the Windjammer during the day. What about coffee shops on the ship for an espresso. Where is that located? I have to have my caffeine fix you know! thanks

Believe it or not the best included coffee we found was in the Casino. They had Danish and coffee a few of the mornings and that was our best experience. The dining room was ok, the Windjammer not so great. We did not use room service, but I have heard this is not bad.

 

We did not purchase any at the coffee shop.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think there's a Seattles Best with the Ben & Jerry's on deck 6 (I hate coffee and rarely notice it, but DD mentioned it in passing during our last cruise). Wonderful pastries there too (free with a purchase from coffee/ice cream place) - OMG they were sooooooo good:rolleyes: (actually better than desserts some nights)

There's a Seattle's Best.

 

We had cappuccino and espresso every single day and enjoyed them all.

Pastries are complimentary with coffee purchases.

 

We also ordered 2 carafes of room service coffee every morning - not bad.

Yes you can call room service and have coffee delivered every morning to your stateroom, along with breakfast, if you want it.

 

Coffee throughout the entire fleet is Seattle's Best, according to the RCI website. It tastes stronger in the Windjammer, maybe it's just the way they brew it.

 

No need to pay for coffee at Lattetudes, unless you just like paying extra. They do have the foo foo drinks at Lattetudes, as crookedhalo noted, cost extra but come with some yummy danish and other pastries.

I think the coffee on the ships is undrinkable, but then I am really picky about my coffee. Since I do enjoy a good cup first thing in the AM our plan is to bring a press pot and order a pot of hot water and brew our own.

Good thing the ice tea is good...

We were on the Grandeur over New Years. We had several pots delivered by room service... we were surprised, it was at least OK, and we are a bit snobbish about our coffee (prefer a strong/robust brew).

We've been on several HAL cruises and are planning on our first with RCI in November. We too love our coffee but find that HAL serves sock juice! I often take a jar of good instant and add it to their brewed coffee which makes it almost bearable!! It sounds like RCI is better. This is off the subject somewhat but we are wondering about the cabins on RCI - the outside cabins we are used to on HAL are around 190 square feet. RCI outside cabins look like they are about 150 sq ft (F). Anyone else been on HAL and RCI to compare? How about storage space?

Thanks so much for all your replies! I was thinking of buying a coffee press (never have had one but they seem really neat!) to do our own, but think we will do the room service and try the casino coffee and other suggestions. We would really try to avoid paying for it so these suggestions have been very helpful.

 

Also the idea of having breakfast delivered as well is a good idea so we could have our coffee, eat breakfast then head to the pool early before the crowd!

A coffee press is really neat and makes a great cup of coffee. I just wouldn't want to be bothered with cleaning up the grounds. We bought ours for when we go camping in our camper. Just my thoughts.

A coffee press will NOT be allowed in your stateroom. RCCL is really cracking down on electrical appliances and will have it removed!

 

Please don't try to sneak one on!

 

We just returned from the Grandeur and there was a sign taped to the balcony door about prohibited items.

 

BTW - We thought the coffee was pretty good in all areas of the ship. I drink mine with cream, but DH drinks his black and he was very pleased.

A coffee press is not an electrical appliance. I will never understand why anyone would take a coffee pot or any other electrical appliance on a cruise, but that is just me.We just left the Grandeur, the coffee was very strong in the dining room,good in the Windjammer but only fair from room service. Don't know why there is a difference.

A coffee press is not an electrical appliance. You place the fresh grounds in the container, add very hot water, place the press/lid on, wait about 5-7 minutes and press the top piece down. It actually makes the best coffee around. It's just a little messy to clean up since the grounds are on the bottom of the pot.

We were recently on Grandeur and had a balcony (D1) that was plenty big enough for 4 adults (DH, DD- 19, DS- 15 and me) for nine nights (storage was a bit tight for clothes!), with suitcases stowed inside each other and then under beds. My sister was also onboard in an OV with her DH and 2 small children and said storage was good, but she said she was happy she'd brought an over-the-door shoe organizer to stow stuff in (said it made it easier to see the small stuff). They were on deck 3 and had the small loveseat in the cabin with two twins and then two pull downs. Don't think I would have been able to survive with my kids in that room, but if they were smaller would have been a breeze!:rolleyes:

teajak - Were you drinking decaf or regular. We had decaf. Our room service coffee was just as good as the dining room. I just remembered that we never had it in the Windjammer, since we only ate breakfast there once and I had hot chocolate. The dining room coffee for both breakfast and dinner were wonderful with the real cream!

 

crookedhalo - I don't know how you survived in the D1 with four adult sized people. :eek: Two of us were in a JS and although we had plenty of room, I could not have shared it with our children. The bathroom could not accommodate more than one at a time. You are to be commended! :D
