Splendour check in time??

I am going on the splendour (3/17), arriving in IAH 3/16.. booked a rental car from enterprise (one way) dropping it off in Galveston. My question is I have the car scheduled until 11am on 3/17.. so if we drop it off early can we go to the ship check in , can we leave the bags there but go to the strand easily (how?, what is the easiest transportation?) to explore, grab lunch, ect. Or will the ship be ready to board?

Ship is generally ready to board around noon. Have lunch on board. Drop off the car at 11 then go directly to the pier.

If you want to explore the Strand after you board and drop off your luggage it's a very short walk. If you look at the "Strand Cam" here http://www.galveston.com/webcams/ , the pier is about two blocks to the left.
