Why Eggcrate foam pad on bed??

Recommended Posts

Well, my guess would be no. We had an AB mini last week and it was the same awful mattress we have had on previous sailings on this ship. I too was hoping, since it is so widely publicized that they had done the upgrade since our sailing in 2006, but no such luck, sorry! :(

As for E729, as long as the weather is nice, it won't be a problem. It is when you are out at sea and run into wind that ours became unuseable. Both on the Grand Princess (7 day cruise) and the Star Princess (so many days I can't even remember now, but just under a month cruise). LOL So, it will all depend on good ole' Mother Nature.

I harp on about this on many fronts.

Cruise ship are far behind hotels in almost every way when we talk about cabin/room comforts.

No non-smoking cabins as an example.

The Crown has great beds, as did the RCI Mariner (just off after her refit).

The Sun Princess and the NCL Princess have beds that may stand the test to rent by the hour in a big city....

Carnival beds are great..... Louis Cruises.... the floor is more comfy. Thompson and Sun Cruises actually put rocks in the bed to keep passengers at the casino, which is so full of smoke that passengers actually affixiate and pass out in their beds..,

Um, have you had a lot of experience with rent by the hour beds in a big city? Did you bring an egg crate.....and did you smoke?

T2K -- So, my wish list, in no particular order: (1) No hurricanes in or near our path; (2) decent weather otherwise; (3) mysterious luxury mattress fairy has visited E729; (4) Princess has increased its stock of egg crate toppers, since #3 is highly unlikely; (5) Kentucky beats Tennessee this year (that one is for DH, who of course says it should be #1). :p

In reguards to #3-Just fax them over a request for a double thickness egg crate toppers, it will take care of the problem and ours was already on the bed when we arrived. So, they must have had plenty to go around. (ya think that alone would tell them something?) LOL Oh, and it really helps take care of that lumpy thing in the middle if you request a queen bed. Without the toppers, you feel like there is a wall between you and your SO. ;)

Couple of things - we have had the "new mattress" on the CB - The bed was so horrible the first night I actually asked if anything could be done and they replaced our bed - was it better? Yes, but.....remember we sleep on a tempur pedic so nothing really compares....that is why we bought the areo bed and I know some think we are nuts and honestly I don't care....

the other thing - you guys may beat us in fball but we are going to take care of you guys in bball - 5 years ago I wouldn't have been able to say that with a serious face...now it could happen. Interesting how the tide changes...did I say tide  yikes for some reason the movie liar liar comes to mind. :D

FLVol77 -- TempurPedics are amazing. Headquartered right here in lil' ol' Lexington KY, no kidding.

[We'll just see about that basketball prediction, won't we? :p ;) Billy Clyde's already snagged some surprising recruits... Still off topic, my youngest DD (13) insists she's gonna play for Pat Summitt.]

I still don't get this mattress thing. If Princess is supposed to be more 'upscale' than Carnival (at least that seems to be their marketing niche), then why aren't the mattresses comparable? OK, I'll let it go now. But tomorrow I'll be faxing in my bed topper request.

I faxed them a couple months ago, but it's still not on my Cruise Personalizer. I also requested feather pillows, as well as a couple extra regular pillows and those are showing up on my Special Services. I wonder what's with the eggcrate toppers.

What form did you use to ask for that? I don't know what form to use or where to fax it. I have arthritis and definitely need some extra pillows and an egg crate topper.

Hi fellow Vols fan! Hubby and I are fans. We both went to UT, my family's from Knoxville, hub's from Chattanooga. My dad and nephew have season bb tics (for the last 15 years) and agree that they will be really good this year. It's gonna be an exciting year.

There is no actual form to submit. You just compose a letter telling your names, booking ID, cabin number, ship and sailing date. Request the mattress topper and it will 'possibly' be on your bed when you arrive. If it's not, then just ask your room steward about it when you check into your cabin.

We normally fax it if we are going to be late boarding, if we arrive on time then we wait until we get to our cabin.

Obviously the mattresses are unconfortable. We always request the foam padding on the first day.

Last year, we were on the Dawn, in a mini suite, had the foam pads and my husband's mattress was still uncomfortable. He requested they replace the mattress, which the did the same day.

So if the mattress is unconfortable even with padding, no need to suffer sleepless nights. :)

I didn't know that about tempurpedic...I love our bed its been great for my back....

I have a good friend that cruises on Carnival and him and his wife aren't big into the party scene- they are like us very laid back...He has a Carnival bed in his guest bedroom and my wife and I couldn't believe on great it felt....You would think Princess would get the clue.

Hello Everyone!

Can anyone help and possibly answer this question:

We are sailing on the Golden in November. Anyone had experience with their beds, are they extremely uncomfortable like everyone explains other beds on the Princess fleet?

Also,

We are stuck with 4 single twin beds because of the Ocean View cabin we are in. There will NOT be a queen pushed together for my husband and I to sleep in the same bed (darn!). Will they put the Foam Egg Crate pads on this sleeping situation?

Thanks for ANY info you can offer about this, the ship, etc.

Well I opened up this thread back up to give you guys the status - well, here is another update.

YES it can show up in the personalizer....because I opened mine up this morning and it was there. Under Special services.

I'm not being ignorant, but IT DOES NOT SHOW UP on the Personalizer. Special services offers a Rollaway bed, NO foam egg crate bed. Maybe your just special and it only shows up for your booking number?

It does show up in the personalizer. I faxed my request in on Monday and it showed up in my personalizer today under "special services". Just follow the steps below that someone posted earlier:

Go to View My Travel Summary & Boarding Pass on the right hand side of your personalizer....click it and then under https://book.princess.com/images/global/spacer.gif https://book.princess.com/images/cp/...bar_review.gif on the right hand side click My Special Services and that is where it will show up.

Question did you fax in a form like the one that I posted maybe a page back?

If you did it can take a couple of weeks to show up. Its not an option that you can choose, the way you find out if it is showing up.....look under Travel Summary on the right hand side of the page in the cruise personalizer page.

Under that click on View My Travel Summary & Boarding Pass

Then under Review on the right hand side of the page My Special Services Click that and you will see..... Passenger purchased gifts and special service requests are listed below.

Even if egg crate shows up as confirmed, that doesn't mean it will be in your cabin.

We've been sleeping on the memory foam for years - you can get a simple matress topper made of this at Target, Kohls, Sams Club, lots of places.. Just get a cheap one and pack it. Yes that's right: pack it.:o I've done this on our last 3 cruises on Princess. If it's this or fromal wear, guess which one gets sacrificed. So far, it hasn't come to that. The trick is to trim it down to the smallest reasonable size. Do your feet need foam? Do you sleep with your legs bent? Okay - 4 feet is long enough for us (and DH and I are tall). Now, how wide is a queen size bed? Does anyone really sleep right at the edge - shave off another foot from the width. Then, we sqeeze out the air, tie the foam with belts, and squash it into a suitcase. What is the option really? Hope for egg crate - if it's gone, have our sleep ruined?:(

It is really outrageous that Princess thinks their beds will be acceptable to their average cruiser - especially if they are paying attention to what is going on in the hotel industry today. I'd love to send the execs on a "retreat" where they sleep on these things for a few nights.

We use to buy cheap ones off ebay and just leave them - around 50 dollars shipped - then my wife was like request a bed topper, if it works great....but we also bought an areo bed with the tempur pedic foam topper and its comfortable so we are going to take it with us just in case the topper doesn't work.

Ok, I think I got it worked out. Thanks for the help on this. WHEWWW, they could eliminate all the headache with people rushing to get their bedding situations by just simply upgrading the damn mattresses! lol

Oh, by the way.....

Princess told me that anyone requesting these should only fax a request to the SPECIAL SERVICES dept at 661-284-4885 NOT the 661-284-4745 as that is regular customer service and they handle different issues.

Thanks again for your assistance to EVERYONE on this matter! Your form was also very well organized. I used it and sent it out for us and our parents cabins as well. VERY easy!
