Parking in Galveston or New Orleans

We'll be driving in for a Christmas cruise, but may stop a bit north of the Galveston area for the night. Is there secure parking at the port? More or less expensive than at the hotels mentioned? Good idea/bad idea?

 

 

We're also driving to New Orleans in Oct. - same questions - secure parking at the port? If not, any recommendations for a safe hotel with secure parking and shuttle?

and click on What to Do and then on Cruising from Galveston. Both EZcruise and Lighthouse get good reviews on these threads. We have used EZcruise and have had no problems.
