Rumor has it that Independence of Seas (3rd ship in Freedom/Liberty class) is going there Summer of '08.... Check out the RCI UK site.

What month were you planning to cruise. "Early in 2008" doesn't really happen on the Med cruises. They normally start towards the end of April, following the repositioning transatlantic cruises.

I prefer The Brilliance of the Seas over any other ship. She has been a fantastic ship in the Med. We love cruising on her and will be on her April 29th out of Barcelona. At least half of the cruises include Venice -- with others going to Greece and Turkey.

Go to the RCI site and search the Europe cruises. You will see many that will tempt you.

I know this is the Royal Caribbean board, but let me wholeheartedly recommend your looking into the Celebrity Millennium. The Millennium typically does 12-14 night cruises that either START or END in Venice ...and, frankly, the itineraries are better than the ones offered on the Brilliance--which traditionally does round trips from Barcelona and skips Venice every other cruise...

By starting in Venice and ending in Barcelona...or vice versa...the Millennium lets you do a multi-day pre- or post-cruise stay in BOTH ports

We've tacked on pre- and post cruise two night stays in Venice on two different cruises (also when our Oceania Nautica cruise ended there this past July) and I'm convinced the added nights are the only real way to do Venice any justice...

The Millie also has, IMHO, better food and service...and about 500-600 fewer passengers than the Brilliance on the same size ship--far more spacious with fewer crowds and lines...

Princess and Oceania also do itineraries that start or end in Venice...

Good luck...

Independence will be sailing out of England but will not be going to Venice.

Brilliance includes Venice on some of her itineraries out of Barcelona, otherwise Splendour sails out of Venice on a 7 day itinerary.

Sorry for the misinformation...all I heard was Mediterranean and I assumed. :o

I took Royal Caribbean on a 12-night Mediterranean cruise which both started and ended in Barcelona. The ship did, however, spend two full days and a night in Venice so we really got a chance to see and experience the city. We went out with a couple we had met on the ship for dinner that night followed by drinks and music right in the square and it was everything you can imagine Venice to be. I would highly recommend that cruise to anyone interested and the overnight in Venice is almost like a bonus. Of all the places we visited I thought Venice and Monte Carlo were the best and we got to spend the night in Venice and didn’t sail from Monte Carlo until after 2am thus allowing time for a nice dinner and some gambling in the famous casino that night.

The Independence will be based out of Southhampton. She will be sailing 14 day itineraries in the Mediterranean, focusing on Portugal, Spain, France and Italy. This according to Richard Fain's press conference on Feb 26th.
