This is an interesting article about the area around the Red Hook cruise terminal. The story shows the area in pictures along with some of the real estate prices.

 

Crime is significantly down in this area...as it is in most of NY city again this year( an amazing 41% drop in homicides again so far this year). The main picture shows the Fairway market...a picture that someone had posted on cruise critic to show a derilict building!

 

Is it paradise? of course not but it isn't dangerous either---
