luv2travel06 Posted March 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2007 HAL charges $34 pp for this excursion. Must this be booked in advance due to capacity limits? Does it cost more to do this excursion through HAL or can you just get off the ship and pay less for the same excursion at the pier?
KINGBOBOFTHENORTH Posted March 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2007 We were there just a few days ago on Carnival and they were charging $39 for that "hop-on, hop-off" bus. We didn't buy it. A taxi to downtown Cockburn Town was $5 per person each way; the only other place the bus goes (I think) is out to the lighthouse at the north tip of the island. Don't recall what the taxi charge was to there. BobK/Orlando
Traveler45 Posted March 23, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2007 We were there 3-5-07 on the Zuiderdam. Our horse-drawn carriage ride was cancelled, but didn't find out until we opened excursion envelope in our cabin. No other excursions appealed to us because we wanted commentary about the island, so we rented a taxi and driver for a tour of the island. It turned out to be a good decision Driver wanted $35 each, but we offered $25 and he agreed. He stopped wherever we wanted and even introduced us to the oldest person on the island (100-1/2) when he saw him sitting on the porch outside his home. Went through Cockburn Town, saw salt ponds, replica of space capsule John Glenn orbited in before being debriefed on Grand Turk, lighthouse, horse & donkey farm next to horseback swim excursion area, community college and even the driver's house on the "high" part of the island. He was so informative and interesting. We gave him a very large tip because we got so much for what we paid, which was considerably less than what the bus charges, but so much more personalized. Also, his van had a/c. We were gone over 2 hrs, then still had time to explore the cruiseport and use the beach there. Clamshell rental is only $5. HAL charges $39 each for 'Guana hop-on-hop-off bus and it's $39 if you ask them directly at the cruiseport since pricing is controlled by Carnival who built the cruiseport. You do get admission to several places w/ the bus wristband, so that might be important to you.
