if you arrive at the port (Miami) on your own? Are there porters right there to take it, or do you wait in line with it? Last time we took the NCL transfers - we gave it up the airport and never saw it again until it arrived at our cabin.

There is an area where you drop off the bags with the porters, next to the terminal entrance. The only bags you keep with you are your carry-on bags, and those will go through an airport-type x-ray machine.

Yes. Porters are available to take your luggage at the cruise terminal.
