MinnieCruiser Posted March 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2007 Hi, We have finally decided on our plans for our 7/1/07 Rhapsody cruise. We plan on arriving in Houston on 6/28/07 and staying in Houston. We plan on going to NASA, the zoo and a couple of museums. We will be landing at Houston Hobby. What moderate hotels($75-$100/night) do you recommend that would be convenient to the activities that we have planned? We would like something that has a pool and that is easy to get to. Also, are we missing any must-do activities? We will be traveling with our 12-year-old son who loves science and fish. Also, do you have any restaurant recommendations for both Houston and Galveston? We plan on spending one night in Galveston after the cruise. What moderate hotels do you recommend for a one night stay in Galveston? We plan on visiting Moody Gardens and the beach. Thank you. MinnieCruiser Thank you for all your help.
SmileyFaceM Posted March 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2007 MinnieCruiser - We're staying at the Holiday Inn at Houston Hobby in one and half weeks. Whe we get back, I'll post how it was. We got a great deal through Priceline (see sticky at the top). We're also hoping to do some fun things around town. Last time we went to a museum in downtown Houston and it was great! Minniecruiser for your pre-cruise accomodations you might try looking on the website www.clearlakehotels.com The hotels in the "Clear Lake Area" are in and around Clear Lake/NASA/Seabrook/League City. This would be a good point to branch out from on your pre-cruise adventures and then only about 25 to 30 miles to Galveston for your cruise. Another "something" to do in this area would be the Kemah Boardwalk I think the Kemah Boardwalk website is www.kemahboardwalk.com If that does not work a search will for sure. Kemah Boardwalk has lotsa resturants/attractions/games/carnival rides/boat watching/people watching:eek: As far as your Galveston stay....it will be summer and you will pay "the going summer rates".... try www.galveston.com and check on summer rates My favorite resturants in Galveston are Rudy & Pacos, Willie Gs, Saltgrass....but, you will get every opinion on what someone else likes too. You might find your way back towards the Clear Lake area to stay if the $$ are too high in Galveston or that most hotels in the summer want a minimum stay of 2 nights for the weekend. MinnieCruiser Posted March 13, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted March 13, 2007 Thanks for the information. The information helps us narrow the search. It sounds as if there is a lot to do in Houston. I am glad that we have a few extra days to look around. MinnieCruiser
clearlakecruisers Posted March 14, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2007 I'm in the Clear Lake area and would be happy to answer any questions you may have about lodging, restaurants or things to do in this area. If you search this thread, some previous answers from those of us in the area should come up also.

Thank you.MinnieCruiser Thank you for all your help. galveston.com has been mentioned for a room, shop around and read the other posts about Galveston Hotels. Check and you might find a bargain. With all due respect to the Clear Lake area, Space Center Houston, is always a super place to visit for all of us. It's great you are taking the boy to Moody Gardens, they have a world class aquarium so his love of fish will get a boost. Also a 3D IMAX and tropical rain forest etc. The aquarium is modeled after the National Aquarium in Baltimore, you will see the resemblance on your visit. Casey's next to Gaido's 38th and Seawall is a good choice or take him to Fisherman's Wharf 22nd and Harborside right by the cruise terminal and let the lad see the Tall Ship Elissa. MinnieCruiser Posted March 15, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted March 15, 2007 Hi, Thank you for all the hints. We will be making our reservations for a hotel in Houston and in Galveston this weekend. The only thing that we still have to decide on is a rental car. There seems to be a lot to do both in Houston and Galveston. I can't wait to try some good BBQ, seafood and Mexican food. All the good food should get us ready to eat more on the cruise. MinnieCruiser:D
