Pinel Island, St Martin

I've read that the main area in Pinel Island has poor snorkeling, but that the other side of the island the snorkeling is much better. Has anyone snorkeled there recently? How difficult is it to get there? What about the surf. Thanks for any info

I took the Princess tour to Pinel last Dec and I would say the snorkeling is difficult with the currents and it is also not that good. I was very dissapointed in what I saw. You have to be careful, there are many times that you are close to rocks and coral and have to watch your knees. Too close for comfort for me. I did not check out the other side of the island.

I've snorkeled on Pinel Island and it was very, very disappointing. I only learned later that the snorkeling is better on the other (remote) side of the island. On the plus side, the swimming there is phenomenal....lovely spot to spend the day.
