Has any one tried to use SKYPE (voice over IP) on a carnival cruise. I know some other lines have it blocked on there internet connection. Leaving on a cruise in May trying to find a cheaper way to call home.

 

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I use Skype to talk with a good friend of mine in Australia a couple times a week, gotta love it.. it's free when it's PC to PC. However, unless Carnival has it installed already, ( with microphones & headset ) there will probably be some security settings in place to prevent you from downloading and installing anything!

If you have it on a laptop it will work, but not well. Remember it is a sat up/down link so you will have latency. VOIP products don't really like latency...

Check the Carnival website for the exact "best case" speed, but it is PAINFULLY SLOW... I doubt it would be worth the effort. Their best speed is like double dial up...
