What's within walking distance of Hotel Galvez?

Looking for a place to walk to for water/soda, etc. near the Hotel Galvez. Also good seafood restaurant and breakfast. Thanks

The Galvez is at 21st and Seawall Blvd.. I don't know about walking distance for a convenience store but the closest full grocery store is a Kroger at 45th & Seawall Blvd.. That's a long walk but there are several bike rental shops along the Seawall and it's great to cruise this strip. As far as restaurants, you will find many both on the Seawall, The Strand Historic District, Harborside Dr. and Post Office St.. All these areas are connected by the Galveston Trolley which you can catch right next to the hotel. Just jump on the Trolley and get off on Post Office or Strand St. and you'll have more restaurants, specialty shops and art galleries than you can visit in one trip. Check this web site

I wish we had more time in Galveston to look around. We'll probably be coming in around 8pm (on a Princess shuttle, so no way to stop along the way) and boarding the next morning. Was looking to make a quick trip (even a convenience store) in the morning before we board. Any suggestions?

Yes, just catch the trolley and take an early morning trip for breakfast to the Strand Historic District. http://www.speculooscafe.com/index.html This is the site for Speculoos Patisserie & Café @ 216 23rd Street just off Strand Street. The Trolley makes a stop just a few yards from the cafe. Just ask the conductor for the closest stop for 23rd & Strand. They open at 7AM and serve great full breakfast or just coffee and sweets. After breakfast you should be able to find water, sodas and beer at the Old Strand Emporium or one of the other specialty shops in that area. Just ask at the café. If not, you might want to keep your eyes open while you are on the trolley for a C-Store or Drug Store where you can hop off for what you need.

 

You should have plenty of time for this side trip and to get back to the Galvez for your transfers to the ship. Even if you decide to spend some extra time on the Strand before you board, it's only a one block walk to the cruise terminal.

I forgot you are also looking for dinner. If you can catch a ride to 39th and Seawall Blvd. "Gaido's Seafood" is a Galveston tradition (opened in 1911). If not "Fish Tales" is a four block walk at 25th & Seawall Blvd..

We have stayed at the Galvez twice, and it is a wonderful hotel. There is a great little grill a couple blocks West of the hotel on the Gulf side of Seawall. Past the Balinese Room, and the gift shops. It was closed in November, for renovations. We ate there on a prior cruise, and both breakfast and dinner were terrific.It should be reopened by now.

The grocery is Arlan's 2415 25th St.

The Ocean Grill is out over the water at 23rd & Seawall good casual dining about a block from the Galvez. Also Miller's Landing on the East side of the Galvez does breakfast.

Also if you need wine or liquor, try Economy Liquor about two blocks off the Seawall on 23rd St. excellent wine selection and best prices on the island.

I just got back from Galveston for the weekend and the Oceans Grill is still closed. I do not know if they are remodeling - it did not seem to be any activity going on. So I am wondering if they are reopening.

You may not feel safe walking to Arlan's at night. Getting off the Seawall / tourist area in that part of Galveston is not always a good idea at night.
