unique - best souvenir

Traveling to Costa Maya next month and I'm looking for ideas on something to shop for - maybe something unique to the area that you can't find back home at the Dollar store, that was made somewhere else. Is there anything only found in this region? How much did you pay and where?

Thanks for the tips.

What is Costa Maya known for? I know that in Cozumel I got some Vanilla (for cooking) and it was great. I read about it on these boards and knew I had to have some!

Anything for Costa Maya?

Thanks!

Don't think you are going to find many unique items in Costa Maya, unique meaning you can't find the same type of item in other Mexican ports.

Only thing we brought back from Costa Maya that we had never seen in another port was a bottle of pomegranite tequila. However, we've never looked for that type of tequila in other Mexican ports before. We just happened to see it in one of the liquor shops there at the port.

  • 4 weeks later...

We bought an Aztec Calendar made from individual pieces of wood put together. A few vendors were selling it at the pool area, but only saw one guy selling it by Majuhal beach area. We negotiated for the biggest one (it is huge) from 400 down to like 200 or so. While I did see this in Belize too, it was $800 there at one of the jewelry stores. It was hard taking it home on the plane, but it is beautiful hanging on our wall.
